Equality and Diversity - Department for Education

If you love using evidence and analysis to shape how high-profile policies get delivered on the ground, this could be the role for you.

We are looking for one exceptional individual to join the Delivery Unit, working at the heart of the Department for Education (DfE) on our Secretary of State’s top delivery priorities.

As a HEO Delivery Adviser, you will work in project teams working on some of the most interesting and challenging delivery problems facing the Department for Education.

You will have sharp analytical or social research skills, enjoy working at pace to inform decision-making at the highest levels and the ability to build strong productive working relationships.

This is an ideal opportunity for an adaptable, analytically minded and creative individual looking to develop their career in a central strategy and delivery role.

Building stronger delivery capability is a cross-government priority, championed by the Director General and Head of the No 10 Delivery Unit. You can expect to have some exposure to this wider delivery community and working links with colleagues in the No 10 Delivery Unit.

**About the DfE’s Delivery Unit**

The Delivery Unit’s mission is to partner with teams across DfE, government and the frontline, to make the Secretary of State and Department for Education’s top priority outcomes a reality.

We support the Secretary of State to define and deliver a purposefully small number of priorities. This means translating high-level statements of ambition into specific programmes and activities with clear targets and trajectories, which we monitor.

We undertake rapid analytical projects where delivery is off track or where there is a particular delivery challenge, using a range of analytical methods and front-line insight to make recommendations for improvement. We advise the Secretary of State on delivery progress and work with senior officials to embed improvements to implementation.

The work is varied and complex, which is what our team thrives on. It is about cracking difficult problems to deliver real results.

**Job description**:
You will work as part of project teams in Delivery Unit and in partnership with DfE teams on problem solving projects, using a range of quantitative and qualitative analytical techniques to diagnose delivery problems and generate solutions.

You will hold responsibility for monitoring delivery progress in at least one key priority area, developing your expertise, knowledge of performance data and collecting insight from the frontline to inform our regular reporting to ministers and Secretary of State.

You will build relationships with colleagues across the department, working with our Senior Delivery Advisers and Senior Delivery Analysts to improve the quality and consistency of planning.

You will lead work to improve our ways of working in the division, helping build and maintain an inclusive, healthy, and fun team culture.

**Key responsibilities**:

- Analyse and interpret qualitative and quantitative data using a range of methods, working closely with colleagues from the Delivery Unit’s Performance Team;
- Present insight from analysis in a compelling manner, using a range of different communication methods appropriate for senior stakeholders, including the Secretary of State;
- Undertake fieldwork (site visits, interviews, and surveys) to understand the front-line impediments to delivery;
- Work with teams across the department to shape collaborative solutions to delivery challenges;
- Build relationships across the Department, working with different teams to improve the quality and consistency of planning, monitoring and problem-solving;
- Lead work to improve the ways of working in the d
