Health Play Specialist

Using theoretical knowledge & evidence based practice the post holder will assess, plan, implement and evaluate therapeutic play interventions whilst being aware of the emotional needs of the hospitalised child. We support a wide range of developmental abilities and sometimes complex and challenging behaviour. We work alongside the Multi - disciplinary team and external agencies to support the child in the best way possible in the Hospital environment. Our role utilises our skills and our knowledge of the Hospitalised child to offer them the support they need to prepare them for any interventions and procedures they encounter
We as a team alongside the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust recognises the importance of play and the impact it can have on a patient’s experience. We are looking for someone who is committed to meeting the psychological and emotional needs of the child and family in the Hospital environment. A caring and compassionate disposition is required, the ability to show initiative and work alongside the multi-disciplinary team are also essential.
For this post we require
- The professional Diploma in Specialised Play for Sick Children and Young People or equivalent or be in the second year of the foundation degree course in Hospital play specialism.
- We require you to be a qualified Health Play Specialist and registered with HPSET unless you are undertaking the Foundation degree

Evidence of expertise in working as an effective member of a Multi-Disciplinary Team.
Understanding of therapeutic play and its relevance to the hospitalised child.
Documented evidence of Continuing professional development.
Experience of working with adolescents and children with special needs including those with challenging behaviour.
Knowledge and understanding of patient participation and feedback.
