Oxford, United Kingdom Helen & Douglas House Full time

Would you like to capture treasured memories and make wishes happen for babies, children and young people in a role that will make a real difference to their lives? If so, we invite you to join our multi-disciplinary team as a Play Specialist

There is no ‘one size fits all’ in play therapy and the Play Specialist will base their work activities around how the child is feeling. By tuning in to what a child loves, you will be able to empower them, build up their confidence, and enhance what they get out of each play session. Play can take form in many different ways, such as storytelling, cooking and food play, construction, music, sensory play, arts and crafts, and more

Helen & Douglas House is a registered hospice charity based in Oxford that aspires to become a centre of clinical excellence for providing palliative, respite, end-of-life and bereavement care to life-limited children and their families. We foster a climate where team members feel able to openly question, debate and appropriately challenge their own and the practice of others. The Helen House Care Team is a unique and vibrant blend of nurses and carers, all of whom share an authentic passion for delivering the highest possible standard of care to patients and their families.

Due to expanding our services, we are looking for an individual who will build a relationship with every child they support, understanding their often complex needs and providing a tailored plan of play therapy to develop their skills and provide a distraction from daily life. This role will enable you to work flexibly parents and siblings by promoting an awareness of the emotional needs of children and modelling use of resources.

As a Play Specialist you will focus on creating an interesting and stimulating environment where children and young people can fulfil their psycho-social, educational, spiritual, and cultural requirements alongside education with health benefits. Your theoretical knowledge and evidence-based practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate therapeutic play programmes will shine through in this role.

Most importantly, you will get to be the reason for life-limited and life-threatened children’s smiles, laughter and achievements, no matter how small; all will be celebrated

Helen & Douglas House offer the following benefits:

- 27 days holiday plus bank holidays, rising to 28 days after 3 years, and 29 days after 5 years of service.
- We are a direction agency for the NHS Pension Scheme.
- Eye care voucher scheme.
