Health & Safety Coordinator

We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Health & Safety professional to join us, working alongside another member of the team that currently provides advice, training and support to nominated areas within the Merthyr Cynon ILG section of the organisation.
Reporting directly to the Senior Health & Safety Co-ordinator you will need to be able to work well under pressure, be able to make decisions for yourself and have excellent communication and organisational skills.
Previous experience of working within the NHS or a similar Healthcare environment is preferable but not essential.
The post holder will advise and provide assistance and support to Directorate Heads in “Key” areas such as the formulation of Risk Assessments, COSHH, Manual Handling Co-ordination, Provision of PPE, VDU assessments, Noise, all aspects of Datix work - to include the Risk Register, Lone Working issues (This list is not exhaustive). They will also be expected to provide support to persons within their Directorate that have been delegated with the responsibility of completing Risk Assessments. There will be a need to complete Risk Assessments themselves.
They will require strong motivational and persuasive skills and will help ensure compliance with legislation, standards, internal policies and procedures, operational procedures and safe systems of work.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Lead on Health & Safety related advice and support to Directorate Managers, Heads of Departments and staff within the Directorates allocated.
Be responsible for specific tasks, plans and project management as designated by the Head of Health, Safety & Fire (Health & Safety Management Team).
Contribute to the creation of safe and secure environment for staff and members of the public so that the highest standards of clinical care can be made available to our patients.
Co-ordinate COSHH issues for their area, linking in with their Alcumus (Sypol) local COSHH Editors to ensure that all areas have access to current COSHH assessments for hazardous substances that are respectively used. They will be supported by the COSHH Co-ordinator.
Review all incident reports submitted, and where relevant gather and secure any other supporting evidence. Follow-up incident investigations and actions taken with relevant Managers. Work with the Concerns Team in the collation of evidence in respect of assembling a sound defence where appropriate against personal injury claims made against the organisation.
Delivering specialist training will vary from giving advice/training to one individual to giving presentations/training to groups of people.
Use judgement and analytical skills to undertake complex assessments. Utilise data and information from various and differing sources to provide reports and advice to others. Interpret legislation and guidance from sources such as HSE and professional organisations, provide specialist advice and monitor action required to ensure compliance.
Advise and facilitate on the implementation of CTMUHB Health and Safety systems. Requires project management skills and the ability to develop proposals and/or business cases to address specific Health and Safety issues as required.
Be responsible for their own administration work, and therefore it is essential that they have computer and keyboard skills, and an ability to work with a range of software packages and I.T. hardware such as laptops /projectors etc.
Effectively utilise a range of information technology on a regular basis for the purposes of the Health and Safety function. This will include; Datix Incident Reporting / Risk Management Microsoft Office, Sypol (Alcumus) etc.
Assist in the development of Health and Safety Policies, Procedures as the role demands.
Assist in the production of management reports and recommend action in light of the findings of audits, inspections and external review.
