- Demonstrate expert clinical midwifery care and leadership based on current evidence, ensuring an optimum level of safe and effective care throughout the maternity pathway.
- Be responsible for the ongoing development, implementation and monitoring of the screening programmes.
- Have highly developed knowledge and experience in the field of antenatal and newborn screening, the skills to impart this knowledge and to lead a team effectively at local level.
- Conduct audit and evaluation, ensuring that the services provided meet the needs of both the Trust and the local population.
- Co-ordinate all screening programmes working alongside multiagency and multidisciplinary teams.
- Be responsible for the co-ordination of all antenatal and newborn screening programmes, ensuring that they are delivered effectively at North West Anglia Foundation Trust, monitoring the quality assurance of the programmes and ensuring appropriate failsafe’s are in place.
- Provide advanced and comprehensive assessment based on specialist knowledge and experience in all aspects of antenatal and newborn screening. This will necessitate high levels of autonomy and advocacy.
- Ensure referral to the appropriate health professional when deviations from the normal occur and will work in partnership with that health professional to ensure safe standards of care.

Communication
- The post holder will;
- Recognise the importance of personal contribution to the team and the wider professional network.
- Inform and liaise with the pan site Screening team, Fetal Medicine Midwives, bereavement midwives and Lead Midwife on all aspects of screening related to the role.
- Be faced with difficult and sensitive situations at time e.g. bereavement and domestic violence.

This will include giving parents news of fetal/neonatal abnormality, intrauterine death and neonatal death and subsequent care.

The post holder will be able to support junior colleagues but also be able to understand the limitations of their experience and seek help/advice as appropriate.
- Establish a working rapport with other team members and contribute to team meetings.
- Communicate complex, sometimes distressing and emotional information to patients clearly, with tact and sensitivity.
- Liaise effectively with senior managers, highlighting areas of concern in a timely fashion and taking action where appropriate to reduce concern.
- Will be responsible for maintaining an excellent standard of written and oral communication both for her/his self and for those within his/her sphere of management.
- Will work with all staff to provide a culture that is developmental, flexible and supportive
- Will support and assist the senior management team in developing the maternity services in line with national recommendations and local initiatives

Personal Responsibilities
- To maintain personal knowledge relevant to antenatal screening.
- To participate in training as required to maintain competency in your role.
- To attend Trust Mandatory Training
- Act as clinical midwifery lead for the team and supervise staff within the team, ensuring that clinical practice is evidenced based and safe.
- Supervising and teaching midwives on a day to day basis
- Will demonstrate professional leadership and clinical expertise to foster a culture where all staff can develop their clinical expertise and confidence and feel valued.
- Working alongside the medical team when they require clinical assistance within the remit of the Antenatal and Newborn Screening programme.
- Participate in continuous development as required to maintain skills and competency through active learning, attending
