We are looking for a passionate experienced paediatric RN to take on the role of a Deputy Ward Manager on Mountain Medical & HDU ward. You will be sharing our Trust values, are enthusiastic, professional, caring, compassionate with proven clinical competence.

You would be expected to help lead and coordinate the clinical, managerial and educational requirements of the clinical area ensuring the highest standards of nursing practice and care. You will have management days to support you with delivering these aspects of your role (management/clinical shifts 40%/60%).

The role will encompass specific responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care and expertise. You will be expected to work alongside the Ward Sisters and Clinical Educator Nurses to ensure that quality and safety standards are maintained. Recent experience in taking charge of a ward, mentoring students and newly qualified nurses would be an advantage.

- Provide strong clinical leadership skills, empowering others in pursuit of a shared vision to ensure the effective management of the ward/department
- To deputise for the Sister/Charge Nurse in their absence.
- Support the Sister/Charge Nurse implement local initiatives within the area.
- Assesses patients, plans, implements care, provides specialist advice and maintains associated records.
- Responsible for the correct administration of blood products.
- Ensure safe and effective care for complex patients requiring advance clinical skills.
- Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals
- Responsible, for maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors and other staff within the clinical environment.
- Assist the Sister/Charge nurse to ensure that all students and newly appointed staff have identified mentors/preceptors.
- Contribute and assist the Sister/Charge Nurse to foster a learning environment within the clinical area
- To take an active role in risk assessment, supporting implementation of strategies to minimise risk. Ensuring incidents and near misses are reported, through promoting a no blame culture.
- To create an environment that fosters good communication between patient and health care professionals, that meets individual’s needs.

Mountain medical & HDU ward consists of 30 beds ( 23 medical and 7 HDU beds), caring for children from birth to 18 years of age with general medical conditions, respiratory, ENT, home ventilation and high dependency care.

To be a deputy to the Sister/Charge Nurse and act as a role model for junior team members in the delivery of a high standard of nursing care.

The role will encompass specific responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care and expertise within the clinical area.

To help lead and coordinate the clinical, managerial and educational requirements of the clinical area ensuring the highest standards of nursing practice and care are delivered as reflected by the unit philosophy.

Ensuring the safety and well being of services users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centered care principles.

Clinical Leadership and Managerial
- Provide strong clinical leadership skills, supporting, energising, inspiring and empowering others in pursuit of a shared vision to ensure the effective management of the ward/department.
- To assist and support the Sister/Charge Nurse in the establishment of an efficient working environment, making the most effective and efficient use of staff, supplies and services.
- In co-ordinating the day-to-day management of the clinical area, delegates duties and care appropriately, whilst maintaining overall responsibility.
- Ensures that staffing and skill mix is maintained, at all times, to a level that does not compromise patient safety.
