**Permanent, Full-Time position based at Howletts Wild Animal Park**

**Key duties**:

- Upkeep of the private mansion gardens, herbaceous and mixed plantings, wall shrubs, lawns, houseplant displays and seasonal displays ensuring they meet the organisations priorities.
- Ensure that the gardens and grounds are beautifully presented and kept to a very high standard.
- Have a pro-active approach to identifying areas where the horticulture can be improved or where current maintenance and working practices can be reviewed, feeding back on proposed garden improvements when requested.
- Communicate regularly with the Horticulture team to share knowledge, provide support when necessary to develop resilience across the wider department.
- Take part in performance reviews and take opportunities to enhance your skills where necessary.
- Take part in daily staff briefings to ensure you have any relevant information for the day, i.e. upcoming events, any specific jobs etc.
- Assist guests in a positive and friendly manner, sharing customer feedback with the appropriate person.
- Observe the work of contractors and advise senior horticultural team members where this does not meet company expectations.
- Advise Horticulture Supervisor/Team Leader where stocks of materials need to be replenished.
- Follow departmental regulatory compliance, with a particular emphasis on health and safety, pesticide use and roadworthiness of vehicles. This includes using safe working practices, be aware of and follow risk assessments & method statements, and complete monitoring forms as necessary.
- The willingness to learn from other members of the Horticulture team by participating in training where available as well as being able to pass on their own knowledge to other team members and volunteers.
- The ability to work to agreed standards with mínimal supervision whilst providing direction to other team members.
- Good knowledge of plants, gardening practices and use of garden machinery.
- Motivation with an eye for detail and a desire to achieve high standards, with the ability to work on own initiative.
- A keen interest and appreciation for plants and horticulture, enthusiasm for the outdoors.
- A valid driving licence is essential as you will be required to drive company vehicles.

**Contract details**:
The role is 40 hours per week worked five days out of seven, including some weekends. Working hours are 8.00am - 4.30pm. Working hours will include weekends and bank holidays, with overtime as required. All applicants must have the right to work in the UK. A reliable mode of transport is recommended due to our remote location.
