We need someone who can champion fantastic collections care and practise, visitor welcome and the day to day operation of managing volunteers to give great experiences.
We are open to visitors 7 days a week, so working at weekends and during public holidays will be an expectation of the role. Normally, this will comprise of working either a Saturday or a Sunday, and having a day off during the week.

Reporting to the Collections & House Manager, you will be responsible for managing our team of volunteer Visitor Hosts, which will include leading on rota management, training and recruitment to ensure that we are able to open the House according to schedule and deliver great visitor experience.
Staff and volunteers work as a close-knit team to ensure we provide an excellent visitor experience and share Oxburgh's fascinating history in interesting, accessible and innovative ways.

What you'll be doing:As well as line-managing the Collections & House Officer and the Collections Assistants (2), you will work with the Collections team to deliver regular Conservation in Action activities, i.e. carrying out conservation work in front of visitors, and will play a key part in the completion of our annual deep-clean and other essential conservation tasks.
You will be a key member of our Emergency Salvage team, helping us to plan and prepare for salvage situations, and will be required to keep risk assessments and associated compliance documentation up-to-date to ensure our safe working practices.
The role will include day-to-day responsibility for the presentation & opening of the House, including acting as point-of-contact for the Visitor Hosts on a rota with the rest of the Collections team.
You'll have the opportunity to assist with talks, tours & other visitor engagement opportunities and lead on these where required, as well as to assist with the implementation of new visitor experiences. Helping with planning, facilitating & commissioning conservation work will form part of role, as will assisting with work around loans and acquisitions, where required.

- Proven experience of preventive conservation and collections care, including a good understanding of environmental monitoring
- Good manual dexterity, eye-to-hand skills, the ability to work from ladders and tower scaffolds
- A good knowledge of Health & Safety and Emergency procedures
- A keen interest in history and historic properties.
