This is an entry level role to join our shared planning team at an exciting time in a busy and forward looking planning service. This role provides an opportunity to gain experience in different areas of the service including enforcement, policy, appealsand development management.

The successful applicant for this role will join the councils at an important time to help deliver the work of the policy team. The immediate focus will be to support communities which are preparing neighbourhood plans for many of our towns and villages.This will include advising them on correct procedure, ensuring that their plans are aligned with the districts’ current and emerging development plans, and helping to manage the examination and adoption of neighbourhood plans. This post will also contributeto the progression of Local Plan work as required.

**Main duties and responsibilities**:

- assist in the production of documents making up the development plan.
- research a variety of topics as part of the preparation of the development plan.
- write briefs for consultants manage their contracts for specialist work and projects.
- prepare consultation documents
- Attend meetings (including evening meetings when requested).
- assist in the preparation of neighbourhood plans and other policy documents.
- present evidence supporting the Council’s case at Examinations, Hearings and Public Inquiries.
- provide professional advice and training on planning policy and development matters.
- provide input into other Council policy documents where planning policy issues are involved.
- assist in monitoring planning policies.
- provide professional advice face to face, on the telephone and in writing.
- deal with enforcement matters and carrying out associated duties as and when required.
- undertake specific projects within the planning service (such as participating in continuous development).
- carry out any other duties appropriate to the grade.

**In addition to achieve grade 4**
- more complicated planning enforcement work.
- write appeal statements in respect of written representation cases and contributing to hearing
- more complicated planning policy work.

**Your essential skills, knowledge and experience**
- strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- ability to research concepts and projects with mínimal supervision.
- ability to interpret scale drawings and Ordnance Survey maps.
- prepare purchase orders.
- Grade 4: Working towards RTPI Student member expected; Some experience of working in planning; Present at Cabinet Member Briefing and Round Table session with support.

**Your essential qualifications**
- grade 3: 2 A-levels or an equivalent level of qualification or appropriate experience or planning degree.
- grade 4: Planning degree or an equivalent level of qualification with at least 1 years’ experience in a planning related role.

**If you have the following experience or qualifications - it’s a bonus**
- experience of project management.
- advanced level MS word, excel and PowerPoint.
- associate membership of the RTPI.
