18 Months Fixed Term Contract - Full time 37 hours
The Financial Assessment and Benefits Team complete Adult Social Care financial assessments for proposed or current care and support services either in the community or residential settings to identify service users care contributions towards the cost of their services and identify any eligibility for new welfare benefits that the service user may be entitled to.

**About the role**
You will be involved in investigation and resolutions of issues, ensuring policies and controls are adhered to, whilst maintaining a professional and empathic approach.
**Key tasks include**:
- Those who are vulnerable are assisted in meeting their financial obligation to the Council
- Maintaining contact with clients offering advice and signposting to appropriate teams and/or services
- Resolving queries both internally and externally
- Updating appropriate recording systems
- Liaise with and support other teams within Reading Borough Council, for example, Adult Social Care, Legal Services, Accounts Receivable, Deputy’s Team
- To send out formal letters and financial agreement documents to all customers and/or their financial representative(s)
- To handle requests for updating financial records to ensure correct charging process can be completed like internal queries regarding customer billing accounts for invoicing purposes

**About you**
The following experience is required for this role & the type of person we are looking for
- Ideally a background in administration/business support
- Evidence of knowledge of entitlements and assessment functions including but not limited to social care charging or equivalent operational experience
- Strong customer focus
- Resilient and confident in approach
- Excellent Written and Verbal communication skills
- Competent in Microsoft Office products, and database software programmes
- Calm, confident manner to handle potentially uncomfortable conversations
- Working within a team providing a service to the public
- Ability to identify quickly the relevant issues and problems within complex situations and prioritise actions accordingly
