The Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) is an executive agency of the Department for Education (DfE). The purpose of the agency is to support employers, schools and headteachers with their safeguarding responsibilities by taking action on receipt of allegations of serious teacher misconduct and providing employers the opportunity to complete pre-recruitment checks to ensure that they are employing teachers who are appropriately qualified for their role.
- To support these requirements, the TRA has two operational teams:
- the Teacher Qualification Unit, and
- the Teacher Misconduct Unit

Teacher Qualification Unit (TQU)

Teacher Misconduct Unit (TMU)

The TRA operates the regulatory system for teacher misconduct as defined by The Teachers’ Disciplinary (England) Regulations 2012 and the Teacher Misconduct Procedures - Disciplinary procedures for the Teaching Profession.

The TMU is responsible for investigating all cases of serious teacher misconduct and the administration of those cases progressing to a Professional Conduct Panel hearing.

**Job description**:
This is an exciting role where you will be able to contribute to the TRA’s statutory responsibility in regulating the teaching profession and the Agency’s role in acting as the Competent Authority for teaching in England

The TRA works with teachers, schools, initial teacher training providers, local authorities and the teaching regulation authorities in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The postholder will work with the TRA’s information management systems to support teachers and other stakeholders to answer their enquiries, and update systems in a timely and highly accurate manner. The postholder will also provide other administrative support as required.

Please note that cases managed by the TRA may contain sensitive and/or disturbing material.

**Person specification**:
These roles will encompass a broad range of tasks and responsibilities. These will include:

- Completing administrative duties and provide administrative support
- Maintaining a user centred approach
- Collaborating with internal colleagues to support the work of the TRA
- Work confidently with various information management systems and use a database system to input data, action change of detail requests and search records
- Ensuring information about cases is kept up to date and secure.
- Adopt an approach of continuous improvement in the role

**Essential Criteria**:

- A pro-active, motivated and self-starting individual who is able to work with mínimal supervision. Can work quickly, efficiently and is able to balance competing priorities and deadlines
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to confidently communicate and influence in a range of styles with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders
- Be customer focused, understanding and being responsive to the needs and requirements of customers within the TRA, the wider department and externally
- Able to work with different IT systems

The TMU role includes completion of the Level 3 Public Sector Compliance Officer apprenticeship. Please check the eligibility requirements below using the apprenticeship standard: Public sector compliance Investigator and officer / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education
- You must have lived in the UK for 3 years prior to apprenticeship start date and not be undertaking another apprenticeship at the same time.
- You must not already have a substantial amount of the skills and knowledge that is covered in the contents of the apprenticeship standard.
