Equality and Diversity - Department for Education
The Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) is an executive agency of the Department for Education (DfE). The purpose of the agency is to support employers, schools and headteachers with their safeguarding responsibilities by taking action on receipt of allegations of serious teacher misconduct and providing employers the opportunity to complete pre-recruitment checks to ensure that they are employing teachers who are appropriately qualified for their role.
- To support these requirements, the TRA has two operational teams:
- the Teacher Qualification Unit, and
- the Teacher Misconduct Unit
4 of the advertised roles will be based within the Teacher Misconduct Unit.
1 role will be based within the Teacher Qualification Unit's Professional Recognition Team.
The Teacher Misconduct Unit (TMU)
The TRA operates the regulatory system for teacher misconduct as defined by The Teachers’ Disciplinary (England) Regulations 2012 and the Teacher Misconduct Procedures - Disciplinary procedures for the Teaching Profession.
The TMU is responsible for investigating all cases of serious teacher misconduct and the administration of those cases progressing to a professional conduct panel hearing.
The Teacher Qualification Unit (TQU)
The TRA also acts on behalf of the Secretary of State for Education, as the Competent Authority for teaching in England, being responsible for the award of qualified teacher status, and the recognition of the professional status of teachers from overseas.
**Job description**:

The Caseworker will take a proactive role in progressing cases ensuring that cases are progressed within expected timeframes and to a high standard. Caseworkers will routinely liaise with external legal firms which investigate cases on behalf of the TRA; speak with teachers, witnesses and other stakeholders.
The Caseworker will also ensure the case management system is kept up to date to reflect the current position of each investigation.
