As a Regional Nurse (Professional Standards) for Bowel Screening Wales (BSW) the post holder is expected to be a visible point of contact representing BSW in the region of responsibility. They will provide professional leadership, offering professional and public health advice to the nursing workforce within BSW to drive developments in nursing practice, improving the service and experience for BSW participants. The Regional Nurse (Professional Standards) will be required to advise, develop and participate in national training programmes for Bowel Screening Nurses and the Bowel Screening Assistant Practitioner workforce throughout Wales. They will monitor the adoption of BSW clinical policies, standards, protocols and performance management frameworks within their defined region.

Use clinical knowledge and judgement to independently audit facilities, services and pathways and report findings and recommendations to Bowel Screening Wales/Public Health WalesPromoting Independence and WellbeingTo lead and support the staff in the defined region in a way that ensures participants are actively involved in their care, encouraging independence and supporting them to improve and maintain their mental and physical health and wellbeing.Leading and supporting staff to actively promote health promotion activities and programme awareness activities within region.Promote and support the rights, responsibilities and diversity of staff, participants and their families/carers and relate with kindness and empathy to all concerned.Respect the privacy, dignity, needs, beliefs, choices and preferences of all concerned.To provide the programme with assurance that participants have a good understanding and knowledge of the screening pathway to aid the decision making process and that they are provided with accurate and appropriate information.Assist in the process of producing national public information to support the informed consent processesDelivering Safe and High Quality CareBe responsible for proposing, developing, contributing to and implementing the Bowel Screening Programme policies, strategies, guidelines and protocols to enable the delivery of safe, high quality, evidence based clinical practice.Participate in the performance reviews for the bowel screening nursing team within region of responsibility, advising health board management team of performance, training and development needsEnsure that all standards and protocols relating to the bowel screening service are used as a basis for service planning.Provide assurance to BSW & PHW that infection, prevention and control audits are being performed within region. Use clinical knowledge and experience to analyse risks, incidents and other forms of feedback to identify lessons learned.Propose changes to the screening programme for defined workstreams as set out in the workplan.Utilise knowledge of clinical governance to monitor quality standards within defined region, proposing recommendations for improvementsCritically analyse publications and research relevant to the service, and identify and make recommendations on impact and practiceObjectively investigate and analyse aspects of service delivery, with the support of other multi professionals in Wales. These may have competing or conflicting considerations relevant to the delivery of the service, and judgements will need to be made based on evidence and knowledge.Identify areas of good and poor clinical practice through observation and audit and propose interventions to improve practiceAdvise on audit needs; develop and undertake regular audits within region of responsibility, aligning with the bowel screening annual audit plan. Perform the screening practitioner management audit & communicate outcomesUnder the direction of the Bowel Screening programme and Lead Nurse, work in partnership with Health Board staff to lead clinical service improvement projects within region of responsibility.Planning and communicatingUtilises a wide range of communication methods, including verbal, nonverbal and written, to enable effective and respectful interaction with a variety of individuals including participants, carers, and members of the multi-professional team, health board senior management team and senior cliniciansEffectively adapts communication methods, to include the use of technology, to meet the needs of individualsPlan and lead the screening practitioner meetings using good leadership, organisational, communication and negotiation skills Plan and organise regular visits to the screening units and screening practitioners within region of responsibilityBe skilled in the effective management of change to support identified areas to planOrganise personal workload to include regular contact with all stakeholders; be flexible in respect to working arrangements to ensure the needs of the service are metUse appropriate project management skills and documentation to identify areas that need improvementLead, co-ordinate and imp
