**Organisation position and purpose**

The Stores and Dangerous Goods Operative is a key role in supporting science and delivering a first-class service to our internal and external customers. As part of the Research Services department and reporting directly to the Inventory and Supply Chain Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring all Institute deliveries are accurately checked, receipted and recorded in a timely manner. This will include the receipting of diagnostic samples and the occasional use of the forklift truck (training will be given if required).

You will support the science departments by ensuring inventory orders are picked and booked out in a timely manner. Additionally, you will undertake stock checks and raise orders to guarantee critical inventory items are held in stock and available at all times.

Other responsibilities will include assisting end users with packaging and sample shipments and may include using the Institute vehicle for occasional collections and deliveries.

**Main duties and responsibility**
- Check and sign for Institute ordered goods and record details in Goods Inwards register.
- Accurate and timely receipting of deliveries via computer-based system.
- Informing end users of deliveries and upon collection, update details in the Goods Inwards register.
- Picking, issuing and booking out of stores stock items via computer-based system.
- Manage and regularly review stationery stock items and re-order supplies as and when required.
- Support end users where possible with the booking and packing of sample shipments.
- Raising and placing of stores stock inventory orders via computer-based system.
- Assist with stock checks, year-end counts and inventory management as and when required.
- Maintaining filing system ensuring that files and records are continuously up to date.
- Supporting the Inventory and Supply Chain Manager in delivering a customer focused service for Stores.
- Participation in Health & Safety and Quality Assurance procedures, as appropriate to the post.
- Other duties, as directed by the Inventory and Supply Chain Manager.

**Specific requirements**

Essential
- GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- Relevant work experience in a similar stores, inventory or customer service-based role.
- Excellent numerical, oral and written communication skills.
- Computer literate including the use of Excel, Word and Outlook.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience of working in a high-pressure environment.
- Organised, timely and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Able to work autonomously and in a team.

Desirable
- Full driving licence.
- Forklift Truck licence.
- Experience in using Inventory & Order Management software.
