**What you’ll be responsible for**:

- Provide a complete secretarial service including word processing, filing, audio typing, photocopying and the composition of letters and memos, sometimes requiring concentration for prolonged periods and requiring an extensive knowledge of medical terminology. This service is provided primarily for the Consultant Chemical Pathologist but is also provided for the Blood Sciences Manager, Clinical Scientists and other senior staff of both Biochemistry and Immunology.
- Deal with the department’s outgoing mail and to sort and distribute incoming mail for the department. To sort and prioritise the mail for the department, using judgement and experience to decide which documents are passed to the consultant and which are passed on to other staff for action.
- Type all correspondence from Lipid Clinics ensuring accuracy and initiative in ensuring correct patient and GP details are used at all times. Contact patients to confirm attendance at initiative clinics and also where appointments have been brought forward ensuring less DNA’s at clinics. Ensure appropriate clinics are cancelled in accordance with consultant’s leave. To deal efficiently with new referrals for clinics.
- Maintain the consultant’s diary and arrange meetings.
- Produce agenda’s and associated correspondence for meetings. Minute meetings when requested, (Blood Sciences Senior Staff Meetings, Specimen Reception Meetings, Biochemistry Team Brief and Immunology Departmental Meetings etc).

**You’ll learn the following whilst working at the trust**:

2. Knowledge of the systems used, to effectively complete your role to the highest standard at all times

3. A sense of teamwork, gained through working alongside and supporting colleagues from all levels, within the organisation

**You’ll have the following skills/experience**:

- Excellent communication skills
- both verbal and written
- Microsoft office skills
- Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
- Previous secretarial experience
- Previous NHS experience
- NHS System Knowledge
- This role may require you to show evidence of vocational level 3 qualification or at least 2 years relevant experience._
