**Clinical Lead Pathology**

As part of revised Clinical Leadership arrangements in NHS Forth Valley, we are seeking to appoint to Clinical Lead, Pathology

The post holder will have responsibility for taking a clinical overview of their services and working with management and the Clinical Director of Radiology and Laboratories to support the clinical management of the medical workforce, including trainees, so that organisational priorities including the local delivery plan, the quality, healthcare and other strategies are delivered. As well as ensuring trainees’ training needs are met, they will ensure trainees’ compliance with local policies including with the Junior Doctors Contract.

As a member of the unit Management team, the Clinical Lead will work collaboratively to provide support in the day to day running of his / her area of responsibility.

Key result areas for the Clinical Lead post will include performance management of clinical staff within their area of responsibility, clinical leadership, clinical quality, financial accountability, risk management, service development and service management. Specifically, the Clinical Lead will:

- Provide leadership in conjunction with Clinical Director / Service / Department Managers and Specialty Leads

Take joint responsibility for the delivery of clinical governance, working closely with colleagues to ensure agreed personal and departmental SPA objectives are met and monitored
- Work jointly with appropriate members of the management team to develop a service plan for their areas of responsibility.
- Work collaboratively to ensure effective multi disciplinary working within the service to deliver improved
- Clinical performance
- Financial performance Operational performance
- Be a key team member with a strong understanding of the complexities of the wider organisation

Be an integral part of the senior managerial and clinical collaborative infrastructure required to support the delivery of stretching targets and quality improvements.

Ensure the annual job planning process is supported, taking into consideration the new job planning framework, and ensuring that all consultants engage in the job planning process, and that team/service discussions are prioritised.
- In conjunction with the Clinical Director / Service Manager / Department Manager, ensure that all clinical staff have a Personal Development Plan and annual appraisal and are in turn supported to meet revalidation requirements.
- Represent NHS Forth Valley at a Regional and National levels as part of existing Clinical Networks, including the West of Scotland Delivery Board.

Take responsibility for junior doctor contract of employment compliance
- In collaboration with Consultant Teams, provide NHS Forth Valley representation at a Local, Regional and National level as required.

Key result areas for the Clinical Lead in Histopathology will also include:

- In conjunction with the Lead Cancer Team including the Service Manager, Nurse Consultant, Senior Planner and Lead Cancer GP for Cancer Services, provide leadership and ensure effective management, quality and performance of cancer services in NHS Forth Valley.
