This post will be based on Rollesby Ward, the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) on the Hellesdon site.

This role would involve working alongside the Clinical Psychologists, Psychological Therapists, an Art Therapist and an Assistant Psychologist in the team to provide assessment, formulation and intervention for clients. There will opportunities to run groups, work individually with service users and support service users indirectly through MDT working. The role will involve completing audits and service-related projects that support in the development of an evidence based service.

Your role will involve working with people with mental health difficulties when they are at their most unwell; because of this previous experience of working within mental health is essential, and personal resilience is also a must.

You will be working clinically with service users, using different assessment techniques in order to develop formulations of service users’ strengths and difficulties. You will provide evidence-based interventions, using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and third wave CBT techniques.

Good communication will be crucial; you will need the skills to communicate effectively with both individuals with mental health difficulties, and staff members from a variety of professional backgrounds.

We are a supportive, hardworking team who enjoy working in a fast paced, sometimes challenging environment. Our team's wellbeing is important to us and as an Assistant Psychologist you will receive weekly supervision, and have access to staff with many years of experience working within an acute setting.

Working in an inpatient environment means that no two days are the same, and the work is interesting, varied, with many opportunities to learn new skills and knowledge. The psychologists and therapists within the team use multiple therapeutic models, with Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy interventions being regularly used within the team.
