An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Adult Bereavement Service Officer to join the bereavement service at MFT. The post is to be mainly based at Manchester Royal Infirmary, but a degree of flexibility will be required for cross covering the other sites within the Trust if required. The position is for 3 days a week, Wednesday to Friday 11am till 4:30pm.

Bereavement Officers work trust-wide to meet the needs of bereaved people and to provide a high quality service which complies with local and national guidelines.

The Bereavement Team provides bereavement care following the death of an adult anywhere within the Trust as required providing highly sensitive, complex and detailed information to bereaved people.

You will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You will be working collaboratively with a wide range of staff, in addition to being confident in working under your own initiative to prioritise your workload accordingly.

Work with key stakeholders to ensure documents relating to a patient's death are completed correctly and in a timely manner, in line with current legislation.
Be aware of policies in relation to guidelines and regulations around Registration of Deaths.
To provide a source of expertise to clinical, clerical and managerial staff on bereavement issues on legislation and guidelines. Understand and comply with the Trust’s Health Records, Caldicott, Data Protection and Patient’s Property Policies.
Be aware of differing religious and cultural beliefs relating to death and assist families to ensure that all beliefs are adhered to, respected and upheld as far as possible.
Ensure that families are supported throughout the bereavement process and are always dealt with in an empathetic manner. Contact families to ensure that they are updated on the completion of relevant documents. Explain to families how to register deaths and what is required legally from them in order to ensure that registration is valid.
