**What we are looking for**

We are looking for an** Assistant Housing Enabling Officer** to join our team in Housing. The successful person will share our values, commitment, and motivation to make a difference for our residents, clients, and communities.

**About the role**

Our Housing Enabling Officers work to deliver the affordable housing which our residents need to give them safety, security and stability in their lives.

In this role you will gain and develop skills and knowledge for a career in housing, working closely with planners, developers, communities and housing associations to ensure that the right types of affordable homes are built.

You will learn how to negotiate with housing developers and influence planning decisions on behalf of people in housing need. You will help to complete legal agreements and ensure that they are enforced. You will advise community groups and elected officials to deliver community-led housing schemes.

We will encourage you to undertake projects for other teams within housing, broadening your knowledge and understanding.

We will fund you to study for an industry-recognised qualification in Housing Practice, giving you valuable skills in researching and writing reports, evaluating different approaches to housing issues and planning for your own development. You will learn about different housing tenures, rental income management, sustainable communities and managing properties.

**About you**

You will be interested in how places work, and the contribution that housing makes to communities, the local economy and individual wellbeing.

You will have some knowledge of housing management, town planning or development-related practices and challenges, and a desire to learn more; on the job and through formal study.

You will be educated to degree level or have equivalent relevant experience. A background in disciplines or study related to geography, construction, economics or other social sciences would be excellent but not required.

You will be a confident communicator and able to analyse data, legislation, policies and drawings in order to make written or verbal recommendations to different audiences.

You will care about the outcomes you deliver for the residents of Babergh and Mid Suffolk.

You will have the enthusiasm and motivation to undertake individual study.

**About us**

Working together across our Councils and with our partners in the public, private and voluntary sectors, we provide excellent services to our 190,000 residents across Babergh and Mid Suffolk.

We are proud of the role we play in creating the environment, economy, and communities for our districts. We believe that the heart of Suffolk is an incredibly special place to live and work. With picturesque market towns, 60 conservation areas and with two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) within our districts, it is little wonder that we are consistently within the top 50 places to live in the UK.

- Great opportunities for learning and development.
- Generous leave entitlement (equivalent to 26 days a year, increasing to 31 days after 5 years’ service, plus bank holidays).
- Competitive Local Government Pension Scheme.
- Wellbeing Support Program
- Employee Assist Program
- Health Care Options
