**Job description**:
The role

The role has responsibility for developing policies and initiatives to support the chemicals sector and for ensuring that cross-cutting policies take account of impacts on the chemicals industry, its prospects and future opportunities.

The role covers a variety of policy areas which impact the chemicals sector including energy, security and resilience. It will be working at the intersection of chemicals with other key manufacturing and Critical National Infrastructure sectors.

The role will also involve aspects of policy development, information research and presentation and engagement with stakeholders which could include other government departments and big players in the industry.

There are excellent opportunities for developing your understanding both of the sector and of government via site visits, frequent contact with businesses and regular ministerial engagement.

This is an exciting, fast-paced and varied role within a friendly and supportive team. There are excellent opportunities to display and develop skills in policy development, stakeholder engagement and working with Ministers and senior officials across government.

**Person specification**:

- Responsibilities are wide ranging and cover a number of interesting policy areas impacting the chemicals sector. They are likely to include the following:
- Work with teams within BEIS and across government on exciting issues including energy and cyber security, long term resilience, decarbonisation, emergency planning and industry engagement;
- Work with businesses on the supply of key chemicals to Critical National Infrastructure sectors;
- Develop our understanding of the resilience of the chemicals sector to various disruptive challenges and working with relevant stakeholders to develop mitigations;
- Draft briefing and correspondence for senior officials and ministers including Parliamentary Questions and replies to ministerial correspondence;
- Work closely and build relationships with a range of teams across BEI
