YMCA Robin Hood Group believe everyone should have a fair chance to discover who they are and what they can become. We specifically support those children who have been affected by trauma, abuse or neglect. You are giving the children the very best opportunity to thrive in life and have positive outcomes. We follow a trauma-informed therapeutic care model.
**Salary**: £25,500 - £29,000
Base salary: £25,500 - £26,500 per annum dependent on the level of therapeutic care required
Performance Related Pay: Up to £2,500 per year as we want your contribution to be rewarded accordingly.
Benefits: Lots of great additional benefits listed towards the bottom of the advert
Location: Selby
Contract Type: Full Time Permanent
Hours: 40 per week
You will work on a rota for your home between 10pm - 8.30am, either working a 4 on/4 off pattern or a fortnightly pattern. There is the opportunity for overtime if desired and/or shifts in other homes providing you variety and different challenges.
What experience you need to have to become a Therapeutic Residential Care Worker:
You will ideally be experienced working in a social care capacity. Mostly importantly, you will be a resilient, positive and passionate individual about looking after children. Some of our children can be very challenging and have experienced terrible traumas meaning night-time are especially triggering for them. Your calm, understanding and patient nature will give them reassurance, safety and most importantly a friendly face.
Ideally you will have had some understanding of trauma-informed therapeutic practice, but what is more important is that we are looking for you to embody our YMCA Robin Hood Group core values; Honesty, Responsibility, Respect and Care.
Training you will get when you join to ensure your able to succeed in this role:
With our comprehensive induction plan, where we will spend the first 2 weeks training you fully in our therapeutic care model followed by shadow shifts in your home so you are able to follow these principles in all work you do with the children and young people. Depending on your level of experience you will then be paired with a mentor to help you succeed.
If you are looking for career progression, we are very keen to support and develop our employees with ongoing training and qualification. We will support you to achieve your level 3, 4 or 5 Diploma in Residential Care qualifications.
About the role of a Therapeutic Residential Care Worker:
We are looking for Residential Night Residential Care Workers to join our team to provide the highest levels of care 24/7.
As a Therapeutic Residential Care Worker you will provide support and care overnight, being a calm and reassuring presence to ensure the young people in our care remain safe and their individual needs met overnight.
Remaining awake through-out your shift, you continue the therapeutic style of care, ready to support the young person, especially if they are in crisis. Using the theories you have been taught, you will be able to support that child as they regulate and work with them to keep them safe from harm using a wide range of techniques and practices. This might mean sitting with a child through that crisis for hours, but your dedication to your role and to that child means you do this without a second thought.
Having the child at the centre of all we do is critically important to us; we involve the child in their care plan, their risk assessments, their communication plan. We listen to the children about how they want to be cared for and work with them to create a world in which they feel safe and have their basic needs met.
At YMCA Robin Hood Group, you will have many additional benefits, including but not limited to:
- Full therapeutic training and comprehensive induction plan
- Comprehensive well-being package
- Equivalent of 23 days annual leave increasing 1 day each year for your first 5 years (Plus bank holidays where a day in lieu will be offered for working on a bank holiday)
