BASE OF OPERATIONS: Head Office, Llys Garth, Bangor, Gwynedd
**JOB CONTEXT**
North Wales Wildlife Trust is one of 46 Wildlife Trusts working across the UK. With the invaluable support of volunteers and members we manage 35 nature reserves in North Wales. We also work with other organisations and landowners to protect and connect wildlife sites across the county and inspire local communities and young people to care for wildlife where they live. The Trust runs a number of projects, to deliver its strategy of bringing nature back across North Wales.
The Nature Networks funded project Nature Counts has been developed as a mechanism to improve our understanding of selected protected sites within the coastal area of North Wales and engage a diverse range of people in citizen science projects that provides validated and verified meaningful information about the biodiversity of these sites. It will also use this work and the opportunities it brings to expand people’s knowledge of the Natural Heritage of these protected sites and engage more people with their natural heritage.
The aim of the Nature Networks funded Garden Escapers project is to engage with gardeners and key stakeholders in North West Wales to raise awareness of invasive non-native species (i.e. invasive species) and the important role different stakeholders can play. This is important because ornamental horticulture is regarded as the main pathway of invasive species. The project will focus on which ornamentals might be invasive in future and include public engagement elements through an educational exhibit and surveys to find out which potentially invasive species have already escapers gardens.
This role is partially funded by the Nature Networks Programme. It is being delivered by the Heritage Fund, on behalf of the Welsh Government.
