**Job Summary**:
The Designated Clinical Officer (DCO) plays a vital role in the coordination and oversight of healthcare provision for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in Gloucestershire. Working collaboratively with various stakeholders including healthcare providers, educational institutions, local authorities, and families, the DCO ensures that the healthcare needs of children and young people with SEND are effectively assessed, planned, and delivered.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Clinical Coordination**:

- Act as a central point of contact for healthcare professionals, educational settings, and families regarding healthcare provision for children and young people with SEND.
- Coordinate multi-agency assessments to identify the healthcare needs of children and young people with SEND.
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between healthcare providers, educational settings, and local authorities to ensure seamless healthcare provision.
- **SEND Assessment and Planning**:

- Conduct thorough assessments of the healthcare needs of children and young people with SEND, taking into account their individual circumstances and requirements.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive healthcare plans for children and young people with SEND, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure that healthcare plans are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect any changes in the needs or circumstances of children and young people with SEND.
- **Professional Support and Training**:

- Provide support and guidance to healthcare professionals involved in the care of children and young people with SEND.
- Deliver training sessions and workshops to healthcare professionals, educational staff, and other relevant stakeholders on topics related to SEND healthcare provision.
- Stay abreast of developments in SEND healthcare practice and policy, and disseminate relevant information to stakeholders as appropriate.
- **Quality Assurance and Governance**:

- Monitor the quality and effectiveness of healthcare provision for children and young people with SEND, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and guidelines governing SEND healthcare provision.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of local strategies and initiatives aimed at improving healthcare outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- Bachelor's degree in a relevant healthcare discipline (e.g., Nursing, Allied Health).
- Registration with the appropriate regulatory body (e.g., NMC, HCPC).
- Substantial experience working in a healthcare role with children and young people, preferably in the context of SEND.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and guidelines relating to SEND healthcare provision.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, educators, and families.
- Commitment to promoting the health and wellbeing of children and young people with SEND.
