Trainee Clinical Coder

Location: Winfield Hospital, Gloucester

Hours: 37.5 hours, Full-time

The role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join the Clinical Coding department within the Winfield Hospital Ramsay Health Care UK

You will train as a clinical coder and be fully supported through an extensive training and mentoring process with the goal of attaining the National Clinical Coding Qualification (ACC).

Applicants will be required to have:

- GSCE biology grade C or above
- A good understanding of anatomy & physiology
- An understanding of medical terminology

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. To train to obtain and collate clinical information from patient health records. To analyse and interpret that data and translate into Diagnosis and Procedure codes using the International Classification of Diseases (latest version) and the Office of Population and Censuses Classifications of Surgical Operations and Procedures (latest version). These codes need to be accurate, complete and timely to support multiple Hospital business streams and the post holder needs to understand the implications to the Company of this coded data.

2. To undertake and pass the NHS England Digital Clinical Coding Standards Course

3. To access and examine other appropriate clinical documentation and systems to ensure completion of coding within Hospital timescales

4. To participate in internal training initiatives and ensure own individual professional development by attendance at external training

5. As part of this personal development to ensure broad knowledge of Clinical Coding to ensure ability to code all Specialties covered by Ramsay Healthcare UK

6. To understand the impact of coded data on the business aspects of the Company and be able to communicate the complexities of your work to Clinical colleagues

7. To organise and prioritise own workload

8. To become proficient in the use of the Trust Patient Administration System with particular emphasis on the Coding documentation and the encoder system.

9. To maintain a flexible attitude and respond to job changes within the Organisation to maintain or improve the quality of the Coding service.

10. To search for and collect documentation relating to uncoded episodes during the trainee stage of the role. Assist the clinical coding support staff in their collection role.
