**POST**:Young CarersProject Worker

**RESPONSIBLE TO**:Young Carers Project Co-Ordinator

**HOURS**: 20hours per week (to incl. evenings and weekends / flexible working pattern essential)

1. To initiate, build and maintain purposeful relationships with young people

2. Encourage young people to broaden their horizons to be effective citizens

3. To support young people in their understanding of risk and challenge

4. Support young people to identify and achieve aims so that they may reach their full potential

**MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB**:

- Provide a support service to young carers across The Vale and Cardiff working in partnership with statutory and voluntary organisations
- To build positive relationships with the young carers and their families to assess their needs andprovide direct support to young carers' through advocating on their behalf for the undertaking of care assessments/support plans,form filling, listening by ear service or by any other means that support the needs of individual young carers
- To provide a varied programme of support to young carers
- To understand the needs, rights and responsibilities and aspirations of young carers and make positive, non-judgmental relationships with them
- Work with schools to identify and support young carers, this may include assemblies, attending school events, help to raise awareness of young carers in schools
- Use social media and new technology to ensure young carers feel connected and develop a web
- presence to reach out to young people

**MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES**:
1. To run respite activities such as youth clubs, day trips and to attend residentials.

2. Publicise and promote the young carer’s project with all relevant agencies and organisations

3. Maintain up-to-date records of young people identified and supported using systems already developed by YMCA Cardiff Group

4. Conduct on-going evaluations of service using feedback from the young carer’s families and professionals

5. Provide progress reports and regular work plans for line manager, Board of Directors and funders as required.

6. Promote equality and the valuing of diversity within the project

7. To have a good understanding of current issues and legislation affecting young carer’s and their families.

8. Participate in regular team meetings with YMCA Cardiff Group staff and 1-2-1 supervisions with line manager, to attend external meetings when appropriate.

9. Have a collaborative and flexible approach to work.

10. Undertake any other duties necessary to further the aims and objectives of the project

11. To promote the values and ethos of YMCA Cardiff Group

12. To assist with recruiting and training volunteers.

13. To maintain an online presence through our social media platforms

14. Liaise with statutory and voluntary organisations to identify opportunities for partnership working

15. To carry out such duties as may be agreed between the Line Manager and the worker.

16. To carry out the responsibilities and duties of the post with full regard to all YMCA Cardiff Group Policies and Procedures.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**

**Young Carer’s Project Worker**

Recognised JNC qualification in youth and community work or Health and Social Care qualification (or similar)

Registered with EWC (Education Workforce Council)

Educated to Degree or Diploma level.

Award in Education and Training Level 3 (or similar)

**KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE**

Experience working with young people in youth work settings

Experience of working with young carers

Knowledge of All Wales Child Protection Procedures

Knowledge of young carers issues and legislation

Liaison with external agencies

Budgets / Finance

**SKILLS**

Administrative and IT skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to prioritise and delegate/ Manage own workload and time/ time manage.

Good negotiating skills

Ability to make decisions

**ATTITUDE**

Commitment to ensure effective service delivery to young carers and good practice standards.

Flexibility and willingness to participate in out of hours work (evenings and weekends)
