This is a fantastic opportunity for forward thinking individuals, who are looking to work for a fabulous institution on an exciting new research initiative.

As Coordinator and Business Developer, you will support senior staff with the development and ongoing strategy for the research initiative and manage a team to implement and deliver the required activities. You will be responsible for actively growing and managing relations with key internal and external stakeholders, to ensure that the mutually agreed aims are met. A key element of the role is to communicate business needs and market drivers from industry to the institute, which will include business development to identify and maximise opportunities.

The successful applicant will hold be able to demonstrate significant experience in dealing with new product and/or process development for industry, as well as previous exposure to company dynamics and the capability to bridge the gap between research and business goals. Knowledge of the patenting process, licensing or other aspects of technology transfer is needed, along with experience in new business development and setting B2B or academic-industry collaborations. Excellent communication and IT skills are essential, including the ability to produce and update webpages. Knowledge of IP management criteria and experience in negotiation and handling collaborations and reporting within UK and EU projects is highly desirable.

This is a full-time temporary role, to start as soon as possible and will run for an initial 3-month period, with the possibility of extension. It is a 37-hour working week and will be office based just West of Cambridge City. Please note that the role may require travel (national and international), but advanced notice will be given.

**Specific Responsibilities**
- To establish a community website for exchange and information on the initiative, organise workshops, map UK, EU and International grant opportunities and assist proposal and report writing
- To work closely and collaboratively with the Co-Chairs and Steering Committee members on the development of all activities and help manage the team in developing and delivering them
- To develop and manage relationships with relevant internal teams and infrastructure
- To develop and manage relationships with current and future industry partners
- To design and deliver workshops and presentations to stakeholders
- To grow and manage relations with other industry and external partners, working to develop and deliver shared objectives
- To take responsibility of monitoring budgets, reporting to the Co-Chairs and Steering Committee on relevant financial issues
- To ensure compliance with relevant funders and finance regulations and reporting requirements
- To broker meetings with academics, companies, funding agencies, government bodies and other organisations nationally and internationally representing the interests of the initiative.

**Education and Qualifications**

***Relevant Experience**
- Experience of working in a research-led environment, evidenced by a PhD or equivalent experience
- Experience in product development and prototyping
- Demonstrated interest in technology transfer, marketing of technologies, contract negotiation and/or intellectual property
- Knowledge of IP management criteria and experience in negotiation
- Good organisation and time management with ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines
- Experience in handing collaborations within UK and EU projects, including reporting and attendance to project meetings
- Experience of managing own workload and working in close collaboration with industry, on strict deadlines requiring frequent and stringent reporting

**Specialist Knowledge and Skills**
- Significant experience in dealing with new product and/or process development for industries is required, as well as previous exposure to company dynamics and the capability to bridge the gap between research and business goals
- Experience in a commercial environment, preferably in a technical sales or marketing role
- Experience in new business development and setting Business to Business (B2B) or academic-industry collaborations
- Knowledge of the patenting process, licensing or other aspects of technology transfer
- Strong and demonstrable use of computer programs such as Microsoft Office, as well as CAD and other necessary design software
- Ability to produce content for and update webpages, as well as other social media platforms
- Flexibility, accuracy and attention to detail
