**Job summary**:

This role requires a commitment of 8-12 days per year, and is 3 year fixed term appointment.

The Information Commissioner’s Office is the UK’s independent information rights authority. Our purpose is to empower through information. In a data-driven world, we provide advice, guidance and support to organisations enabling compliance with their obligations, as well as protecting individuals and their personal data.

The ICO is constituted as a Corporation Sole, led by an Information Commissioner as both Chair of an advisory Management Board and CEO of the Information Commissioner’s Office. We oversee 11 pieces of legislation, with the most prominent being the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

As a result, our expertise and services are in high demand from both the organisations we regulate and the public whose interests we protect and safeguard.

**he role**

We are seeking a Non-Executive Director to be a valued advisor to our People Committee, for approximately 8-12 days per year.

The role holder will enhance the capacity and broaden the experience of our Management Board. We would be keen to hear from people with backgrounds in:

- People and workforce planning
- Employee and industrial relations
- Cultural development and optimisation.

Non-Executive Board Members are integral to the strategic leadership, planning, performance and decision making of the ICO.

As a member of the People Committee, you will work with the Management Board, Commissioner and the Executive Team to set the strategic direction for the ICO and oversee the effective management of the organisation.

Providing expert, independent support and challenge to the ICO’s Executive Team regarding our people focused goals, targets and service and performance improvements, you will act in the best interests of the wider public and ensure our services reflect their diverse needs.

You will support the ICO’s development, ensuring that it is ahead of emerging people based risks and opportunities and is in position to take relevant, focused action on a wide range of data protection and transparency matters.

**Person specification**:
**About you**

You will have demonstrable experience of people strategy development, strategic workforce planning, risk management and high-performance management at senior level, with the ability to lead, influence, provide constructive challenge and inspire with impact.

It is not essential to have experience in a Non-Executive Board position.
