**About the Group**

The Public Services Group is at the heart of Treasury’s work to secure sustainable public finances and drive economic growth. We manage public spending of more than £250bn. across key public services and departments, including health, education, the criminal justice system, local government, housing, defence and the devolved administrations in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

We do this by working with other government departments, ministers, and other Treasury teams to ensure that spending plans support high quality public services, help the economy to grow and provide value for money for the taxpayer.

Our roles offer a range of opportunities to work with senior leaders in other government departments and on the frontline of public services and ensure the effective delivery of public services.

**About the Team**

About the Government Finance Function (GFF)

The vision of the GFF, which sits within HM Treasury as a cross-cutting central team, is to ensure that we put finance at the heart of decision making. It is at the forefront of the Government’s functional agenda, building a broad and inclusive function that is breaking down silos, sharing the excellent best-practice that exists across Government, and establishing effective relationships with other functions.

The Strategy, Engagement and Governance (SEG) team is a dynamic, high-profile team at the heart of the Government Finance Function. We lead on:

- Setting the strategy for the function, working with departments to ensure we focus on the things that really matter and to drive better outcomes across government;
- Running first class governance for our cross-government senior leadership boards to oversee delivery of strategic objectives and running cross-cutting strategic projects to target common challenges in our wider finance community; and
- Developing communications and running events designed to engage and educate audiences across government.

The team is ten people strong with a diversity of background and experience. We work in a collaborative way with significant join up and ongoing opportunities to get involved in new tasks.

**About the Job**

The Head of Governance and Strategy role is a pivotal role which leads on the monitoring and governance of the Government Finance Function’s (GFF) strategy and will support future work to develop a new GFF strategy to 2030. The role works directly with senior leadership across government to help shape a range of key initiatives across the GFF, and will evaluate the effectiveness of strategy delivery, and will organise leaders in effective governance arrangements to monitor and hold teams to account for delivery.

The Head of Governance and Strategy will also lead on engagement with stakeholders - including Cabinet Office - on cross-government commissions and cross-cutting functional work.
