The Research Communications Officer will provide support to the Research and Development (R&D) department and the Clinical Research Facility (CRF) in communicating and engaging key stakeholders (Researchers, research staff, R&D department, Trust Communications team, patient and public groups, CRN, ARC and other research partners) participate in developing the R&D/CRF internal communications strategy, building relationships with Trust and KCL communications teams and providing a specialist communications delivery service using technical skills in copywriting, video-production and web content editing.

The post-holder will write for a range of different audiences (both internal and external), and be able to adapt their style accordingly. They will be able to distil complex, research and medical information into easy to understand and engaging copy.

- bulletin - including sourcing research information across the Trust, collating external funding and training opportunities and ensuring key Trust messages are disseminated
- Responsible for the production of an R&D newsletter bi - monthly that will be circulated widely to researchers, RDU's, R&D staff and other key stakeholders such as the Clinical Research Network, and used to promote the research activities occurring within the Trust.
- Write and produce content for leaflets, posters and other research materials.
- Write and edit web content, in line with KCH Communications policy, and use digital and social media channels where appropriate.
- Establish effective networks internally and externally to maximise knowledge and understanding of the R&D department’s work and new developments.
- Plan and where agreed (with the Trust’s and KCL’s communications departments) undertake proactive media relations work, working closely with both as well as the Director of R&D/ Head of Nursing (Research) and Principal Investigators as necessary.
- Plan and regularly update a forward content calendar of proactive media stories, communication activities and events. Also develop and promote case studies of R&D achievements for use in campaigns and other communications.

- Responsibility for the organisation of internal and external research events (for example Clinical Trials Activities at both Denmark Hill and PRUH sites and exhibitions and provide support for these activities to R&D Directors and research managers, matrons and Research Leads. This may involve identifying suitable venues, liaising with relevant R&D Directors and Senior Managers, organising all aspects of exhibition/conference attendance, provision of appropriate exhibition stands and materials, and logistics on the day.
- Set up and manage an R&D Communication contact database and distribution list to ensure this is in place and regularly updated.
- Ensure that there is a significant R&D presence on twitter and other social media platforms in line with KCH communication team policies
- Work with Corporate comms team to feed research good news stories into Trust communication materials (for example - Pulse magazine)
- Responsible for uploading research information and stories onto the Trust daily bulletin
- Assess and interpret the effectiveness of existing communications projects and advise on new and different ways of communicating with key stakeholders.
