People Co-ordinator
Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
Our People Directorate exist to support our people to help them realise their full potential, find meaning in the work they do, and to equip them with the skills and knowledge they need so that we can continue to deliver for Scotland.
Scottish Water’s ‘People Connect’ team are the first point of call for our managers and employees when they need help or advice about HR and pay-related issues.
We’re looking for a People Coordinator to join the team, to help provide a friendly and responsive HR administration and advisory service.
This is a Fixed Term or secondment opportunity for 6 months.
What you’ll do:
As a People Coordinator within People Connect, you’ll be dealing with a huge variety of queries. From setting up brand new joiners to queries about people leaving on retirement. From absence issues to parental leave policies. It might be a simple question about changing someone’s pay. Or a manager seeking advice on a sensitive situation in their team. There is no typical day.
Most of the time you’ll be able to provide the answers. And when you can’t, you’ll refer the employee to a specialist team for more tailored advice.
As well as being the first point of contact for people related questions, you’ll also provide a comprehensive HR Administration service: creating new contracts, setting up new hires, doing pre-employment checks, processing leavers, and making changes to pay and benefits.
What you’ll need:
People Connect touches everyone at Scottish Water, so you’ll need to be able to build effective working relationships across the business, liaising with employees, specialists in the People teams, and leaders of all levels.
Personality-wise, it’s important that you’re conscientious. You’re someone who does what you say you’re going to do. You like to help, and enjoy solving problems.
You will be confident working autonomously and will be able to prioritise competing demands. Attention to detail and good digital skills are essential.
It would be great if you have a background in HR operations and administration, and experience working with People systems, particularly Workday, but this is not essential.
What you’ll get:
While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
The working hours for this role are Monday to Friday, from 9.00 am until 5.00 pm. But you’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.
For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash - handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
This role will be a Grade 3. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £25,980. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £30,000.
The People Connect team work flexibly, both working from home and getting together in our Stepps or Edinburgh office a few times a week. It’s a collaborative and supportive team, working closely and in constant contact with each other and our customers.
This is a Fixed Term or secondment opportunity for 6 months.
Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party. Don’t worry - we’ll ask your permission before starting these checks.
A few final things worth knowing
Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
We’re here to help. Ask us anything at
