Guernsey Police are seeking expressions of interest from Response Sergeants wishing to transfer to our beautiful island.

Response Sergeants provide daily supervision, guidance and support to officers undertaking frontline policing services and co-ordinate the policing response to both emergency situations, critical incidents and on-going investigations. The post holder will also undertake the role of custody officer in accordance with PPACE and the Codes of Practice for the safe custody of persons in Police detention.

A core requirement of the role is to encourage, support, lead and advise staff within their

area of responsibility, quality assure their activities and assist their personal development and improve their professional competence and confidence.

The post holder will be responsible for identifying policing needs within the Bailiwick and taking forward issues in line with the Service Delivery Plan.

This role includes shift working, including weekend and bank holidays and limited overtime

The States of Guernsey offer a competitive salary £51,460 - £57,768 per annum, plus a £1,461 per annum market supplement. Relocation allowance will be provided.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:

- To provide day-to-day supervision and support to their team including training, development and welfare requirements and ensuring compliance with health and safety for themselves, colleagues and members of the public including full engagement with the Personal Impact and Development Process (PiDP).
- To work closely with the JESCC and provide management of incidents requiring policing response, particularly with regards to high risk incidents such as those involving weapons, serious harm, missing persons, safe-guarding, scene preservation and police pursuits.
- To quality assure all aspects of investigations undertaken by their team, including handling of information, (including digital) compliance with Data Protection and Crime Recording Standards.
- To undertake responsibilities under the Codes of Practice for the Safe Custody of Prisoners. (To include responsibilities of a Sergeant under the provisions of PPACE).
- To assist in the compilation of operational orders and proactive initiatives for the prevention and detection of crime, road safety, public order and safeguarding the community.
- To positively engage with representatives of the Media and utilise social media in support of operational activities, whilst complying with Force Policy, investigative strategies and data protection principles.
- To maintain a high level of discipline and professional standards and take action as necessary. To deal impartially with complaints made by members of the public and respond positively should the need arise, referring matters to the Response Inspector / Professional Standards Department where necessary.
- Develop and maintain relationships with colleagues, communities and partners to drive collaboration across Law Enforcement and wider public services provision and attend inter-agency meetings as necessary.
- To co-ordinate and take initial operational control of significant investigations, sudden deaths and serious road traffic incidents, in the absence of a designated SIO or until the arrival or availability of the Response Inspector; ensuring the golden hour principles are considered throughout.
- To undertake various administrative tasks, including compilation of action plans, quality assure process files, producing reports, and to oversee overtime within their area of responsibility.
- Monitor own personal and professional development whilst seeking continuous improvement and new ways of working to contribute towards achieving organisational objectives.
- To deputise for the duty Inspector (Force Incident Manager) in the triage of calls for service for police utilising the NDM and THRIVE models to determine appropriate response or whether call log can be resolved without deployment.
