Why we want you: Are you passionate about supporting people in crisis? We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who will enjoy being part of our supportive team. You will be friendly and welcoming, and keen to get involved in our diverse service and activities. Our Food Volunteers help with food distribution for refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants at our centres. This is a time that can be particularly distressing for them, we aim to ease the process of adjusting to life in a new country through our support.- Tasks: Helping with collecting, sorting and safe storage of food
- Giving donated food to people using the centre
- Helping to prepare and distribute hot food at a drop-in centre
- Supporting the team with ad hoc tasks at the centre- Skills: Strong communication skills and empathetic about the situation and needs of refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants
- Able to volunteer in a multicultural environment
- Good teamwork skills and willing to support where needed
- Knowledge of Food Safety Regulations would be helpful, but we can give you training
- Speak English; knowledge of a foreign language would be helpful (particularly one used in the current local refugee population)
- Emotionally resilient as you may need to deal with challenging or difficult situations
