**Main purpose of role**
Fresh Start provides support to people moving on from or those at risk of homelessness. Fresh Start has been active in Edinburgh for over 20 years with a mission to help people make a home for themselves.
Volunteering is at the centre of Fresh Start’s ethos, and we are looking to diversify our team of volunteers to ensure all ages, backgrounds and demographics are represented and given opportunities at Fresh Start.
The Fresh Rooms Volunteer Co-ordinator will be passionate about helping people establish and make a home for themselves, including but not exhaustive - co-ordinating teams of volunteers to provide people with a painting and decorating service, access to our starter pack household and white goods and support to access wider Fresh Start services. The role will involve engaging with people and assessing their needs when moving into a new tenancy, supporting them to access our services, and working with volunteers and teams of corporate volunteers and ensuring high standards of service deliver are meeting the needs of the people we work for.
As part of a small staff team, volunteer coordinators are required to have a flexible approach and be willing to contribute to the development and efficient running of all services as a whole.
**Main Duties & Responsibilities**
**Service Delivery**
- Following established referral procedures, interview new service users and agree terms of engagement for the service user in our services.
- Assess decorating work in service users’ homes.
- Willingness to take part in the painting of the service users’ homes (as and when needed, no experience required as training will be given).
- Access starter pack household goods and provision of white goods where needed (internal referral process to other team members).
- Be proactive in assessing people needs and utilising the wider Fresh Start team to ensure people have access to provision of goods and services that will increase likelihood of them sustaining their tenancy.
- Plan and coordinate volunteers and corporate volunteers to undertake the work, with the understanding that the Volunteer Coordinator may also have to undertake the work alongside volunteers.
- Seek feedback from clients on the process and quality of our service.
- Liaise with other support organisations to promote the Fresh Rooms service and attract appropriate referrals.
- Ensure that reports on outputs and outcomes of the services are prepared and delivered timeously.
- To manage resources, including the ordering of materials and equipment as required.
- To maintain all internal and external monitoring systems.
- Use of Fresh Start vehicles to travel to service users’ homes and transport volunteers to volunteering jobs, and to keep vehicles clean and tidy at all times.
Volunteer Co-ordinator
- Ensure service user is aware of all Fresh Start services and cross refer throughout our services.
**Volunteer Management General**
- Actively promote Fresh Rooms and all other Fresh Start services to potential referrers and service users, including giving presentations to outside agencies and attending events seeking those in need of our service.
- Ensure all volunteers receive clear guidance and clear induction into their roles, appropriate support and/or supervision and attend review meetings where necessary.
- Maintain records of volunteers’ personal details, availability and work completed in accordance with
- GDPR.
- Organise social events for volunteers. Celebrating volunteering by nominating volunteers for awards and organising celebration events.
- Liaise with other Volunteer Coordinators and departments within Fresh Start when recruiting volunteers to identify appropriate volunteering opportunities.
- Work with the other Volunteer Coordinators towards realising the standards required for the Investor in
- Volunteers award.
- Generate appropriate volunteering opportunities and role descriptions based on Fresh Start’s requirements.
- Recruit volunteers and deliver induction training that ensures all volunteers are prepared for their role.
- (This includes some evening and occasional weekends).
- Contribute to group events that allow volunteers to contribute to the development of their role within the organisation.
- Adhere to risk assessment guidelines and contribute to the routine review of these.
- Adhere to all data entry procedures including updating appropriate databases.
- Gather case studies to evidence the impact of the work we do to assist the fundraising team and improve our service delivery.
**Miscellaneous**
- Attend fundraising and other events organised by, or on behalf, of Fresh Start.
- Contribute to Fresh Start’s communications strategy. This includes producing articles for publications and electronic media.
