We currently have a vacancy for a Specialist Mentor to work with students with autism on a one to one basis remotely in accordance with their DSA Needs Assessment Report, course requirements and learning preferences.

**Job role specifications: -**

As a specialist mentor you will provide one to one mentoring and strategy-based support to students studying in higher education on the autism spectrum and will facilitate students through the development of strategies and guidance to enable them to overcome barriers to learning and become independent learners. You will set clear standards and expectations for your sessions and the nature of the help you provide will be in line with the student course requirements and learning preferences and will include: time management, organisation, oral communication skills, planning, preparation, social awareness, amongst others.

**Qualifications required:

1. Degree level and be willing to invest in specific training.

2. A relevant degree containing a substantial autism component.

3. A PGC in Autism.

**Training:

- **

Willingness to undertake specific training for the role and possibly invest in on-line training with the National Autistic Society (dependent on qualifications).
- Have excellent communication, time management and organisational skills
- A good knowledge of the English language
- Be able to work flexibly to support student’s needs
- Maintain professional boundaries and respect confidentiality and data protection requirements
- Experience supporting autistic learners
- Be capable and confident and able to work on your own initiative
- Have problem solving skills, empathy, diplomacy and sensitivity
- A good understanding of the academic and social challenges of university life
- IT literate with the capability and knowledge to deliver remote support
- Be willing to embark on relevant annual CPD

**Part/Time flexible hours**

**Hourly rate of pay: £30 per hour remote** **support** **and** **£35 per hour face to face (PAYE)**

**Job Type**: Part-time

**Salary**: £30.00-£35.00 per hour
