Rail Shunter Driver

**Shunter/Depot Driver**
Loram UK Ltd is a part of Loram Maintenance of Way, a leading worldwide railway maintenance equipment and services provider. Loram UK Ltd offers a complete range of rolling stock engineering, and maintenance services, train operation services nationally, plus rail grinding systems and services all co-ordinated from our 100,000 sq.ft of service facilities located in the heart of the rail industry in Derby on the RTC business park.
Our ambitious growth plans have seen us recently be awarded new multi-million pound contracts with Network Rail, with more in the pipeline.
This increased business requires more vehicle movements in the yard and workshops which means that we need to expand our **Shunter Driver team**.
**Shunter/Depot Driver**
Loram UK is based in the Railway Technical Centre (RTC) Business Park, Derby, at the heart of the UK rail industry, where this role will be based.
**Role Summary**
Predominantly you will be responsible for controlling the safe and efficient movements of trains within the RTC Derby Carriage Sidings and at other locations. You will be trained and assessed to operate the relevant traction but previous experience would be beneficial. After training you shall also be required to operate machinery which includes the fuelling and watering of trains and the operation of a traverser.
You will be working as a part of the Shunt Team who work closely with other members of the operations teams including Controllers, Signallers and Mainline Train Drivers, using safe and consistent radio protocols, as well as with maintenance colleagues in the workshops, therefore good communication skills are essential.
**What we are looking for**:
If you always remain calm under pressure and like the idea of working with a variety of rail vehicles Loram could be right for you.
You will have a flexible approach to work as the role covers a 24/7 shift pattern including weekends and bank holidays. We operate in all weather conditions so you must be committed and resilient.
As a small UK organisation we are evolving and as such there will be opportunities for development. We are looking for forward thinking people who can work in a supportive and collaborative environment.
This is a safety critical role and you will be required to hold/undertake Track Safety competence and you will be required to pass a Drugs & Alcohol Test and Medical.
**Please Note**:
Because of the operational and safety responsibilities of the role and because it does offer an opportunity to gain further railway operating experience including depot based driving in the future, the selection for this role may also include psychometric/aptitude tests for train driving.
We have a competitive benefits package providing a medical cash plan, discretionary bonus, pension, 248 hours annual leave annually (31 days of 8-hour shifts including Bank Holiday allowance) and corporate discount scheme. The hourly rate for this role is £14.17 upon commencement and will be increased to £19.67 once fully qualified.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
**Salary**: From £14.17 per hour
