**Job description**:
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is an independent organisation within the Department for Transport (DfT). The AAIB’s purpose is to ‘improve aviation safety by determining the circumstances and causes of air accidents and serious incidents (without apportioning blame or liability) and promoting action to prevent recurrence’. We investigate accidents and serious incidents to civil aircraft in the UK and overseas where there is a UK interest.
The AAIB is also the UK Authority for the investigation of spaceflight accidents (SAIA), authorised to conduct safety investigations when there are space flights in or over the UK.
To ensure that the AAIB’s output is effectively reaching its target audiences, we have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our Business Support team as a **Digital Content & Publications Officer** providing key support to AAIB senior management and the wider Branch.
This is a new role and will give the successful post holder the opportunity to develop their areas of responsibility. The post will provide a focal point in the branch for advice and support when creating and publishing digital content and provide a vital planning and coordinating function for delivering key messages from the AAIB as we move from a hybrid publishing environment to fully digital.
**Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:
Supporting AAIB senior management and working collaboratively with all colleagues, the main duties and responsibilities of this role will be roughly split across the following areas:
**AAIB Publications Process**:
- Publish reports and other content on the AAIB area of the GOV.UK website.
- Responsibility for managing publication schedules, preparing and reviewing reports, graphics and other content in a timely manner
**Intranet and Internal Comms**:
- Manage and maintain existing internal communication channels within the AAIB, including its intranet
- Create user-focused content which is engaging, compelling and fit for purpose
**Stakeholder Engagement**:
- Develop a strong understanding of target audiences and champion use of most effective tools and channels
- Regularly review and evaluate the AAIB’s digital content and produce engagement reports to ensure users’ needs are met, content is accessible and target audiences are reached
**Content and Digital Platforms**:
- Develop user-focused and engaging digital content for social media and other platforms, including use of video, infographics, and other tools
- Use social media insight and analytics tools to compile reports and recommendations, monitoring the success of our social channels and website content seeking to optimise and improve performance

**Person specification**:
**About you**:
To be successful, you will need to be someone has excellent written and verbal communication skills, being able to adapt your delivery to suit a wide variety of audiences.
You have superb organisational skills, being able to act as the focal point for non-experts to advise on digital content, publications and social media.
You will have experience of using your skills to create digital content and publications using a range of products such as Adobe Suite and InDesign. You will be able to creatively communicate the key messages of our reports, being aware of the sensitive nature of AAIB investigations.
You can collaborate well with others and use your own initiative to deliver your work to a high standard.
**Additional Information**:
To support the AAIB’s operation, the successful applicant may be asked to join an on-call rota to provide support remotely or from the AAIB’s offices (including out-of-hours). This will include, but not limited to, providing support in the event of a major aircraft accident and supporting out-of-hours operational activity
