Role Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as an experienced **Chartering Broker **to work in a truly global environment to be responsible for chartering ships in the Atlantic/ Continent/ US Gulf regions in addition to delivering exceptional technical execution and customer service to both traders and customers to ensure that the department operates in a commercially efficient way. The role provides an excellent opportunity for someone eager to demonstrate their skills within the challenging and fast‐paced soft commodities industry.

Business Overview

**ED&F Man Sugar** source or process raw, white and specialty sugars from over 40 producing countries. We sell to refineries, industrial users, wholesalers, retailers, and consumers, offering local solutions though a number of in-country purchasing, sales and distribution businesses. As a founding member of Bonsucro, all our processing operations and trading hubs have the highest sustainability credentials, and we play an active role in developing the sustainability agenda.

We are part of **ED&F Man Commodities**, a world leading trader of agricultural products including coffee, sugar, molasses and animal feed.

Key Accountabilities
- Ensure close co-ordination between ship brokers, shipping agents, surveyors and third party vendors
- Chair weekly meetings with the Trading team to ensure all parties are up apprised of potential issues, solutions and ensure all stakeholders are informed of actions taken
- Work with the Trading team to ensure timely and accurate flow of information is maintained on which to base decisions
- Pro-actively respond to customers, keeping them up-to date throughout
- Ensure that the database and filing systems are accurate at all times
- Ensure that the handling of shipping, packing supervision costs and settlement of commissions are correct
- Ensure Risk management is compliant
- Identify, improve and optimise operational processes and potential savings
- Maximise and improve chartering P&L via voyage and/or time charters
- Identify shipping opportunities that can generate gross or revolving P&L for the business

Skills and Experience
- Significant commodities physical trading operations and shipping and documentation experience
- Full and excellent knowledge of the shipping process including container and break bulk
- Proven experience of contract drafting and negotiation as well as related trade support activities
- Ability to influence at a senior level coupled with drive, tenacity and assertiveness
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and solve complex problems
- Strong commercial acumen and customer focus
- Proven ability to work within a team and with a wide range of stakeholders
- Proven ability to identify alternate solutions and create contingency plans
