Reconnecting Cumbria is a project that aims to rebuild routes towards community for older people; Creating opportunities for older people to raise their aspirations for life. Creating places and spaces where friendships develop. Creating help for people to access existing communities where lines have been broken. Creating belonging and the reassurance that they have not been forgotten and that somebody out there cares.

Age UK West Cumbria wish to appoint 3 new locality link officers covering all of Cumberland (Allerdale and Copeland) The local links officer will engage at multiple levels within communities, both being the lead in launching new events, clubs and activities, and also supporting existing groups to thrive. They will work closely with local stakeholders, including community leaders, health professionals and the clients themselves.

They will focus on building resilient options for the area, also recruiting and developing volunteers to be the day-to-day client-facing presence. They will support volunteers to develop events and social catalysts that are relevant, welcoming and sustainable for all involved. This may include lunch clubs, activity groups or healthy living initiatives, all with the aim of bringing people together.

The officer will mentor volunteers and support them with the background tasks needed within their roles, and they will oversee all elements of safeguarding and monitoring for any planned activities. They will be working with vulnerable clients often with complex needs.

Age UK West Cumbria are keen for this role to be outward facing, not only focused on delivering Age UK activities but also working to support existing community resources that benefit our older people. This may include collaborative project delivery, or simply working to increase attendance at existing groups.
