**Role Summary**:
Our Traffic/Response Officers provide civil enforcement/front-line traffic management support as well as a uniformed response to low-level Security calls for service across the University Campus and Science Park areas. The role includes enforcing the terms and conditions of parking through the issuing of both warning and also parking charge notices to cars that park inappropriately, as well as providing assistance and directions to visitors and car park users. Low-level calls for service include a range of non-confrontational responses to incidents that take place on campus where this role may respond on their own, or deploy as part of a team alongside other security colleagues.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:
**Work Processes and results**
- Patrol car park areas/roads observing these areas and approaching service users requiring guidance or assistance on travel/parking matters;
- Use discretion, knowledge of procedure/policy as well as knowledge of the University/campus in determining the most appropriate means of dealing with and resolving parking problems or situations;
- Using the provided technology, issue warning notices or parking charge notices to vehicles parking in contravention of our terms and conditions where this is appropriate;
- Monitor the working of the pay and display machines and once appropriately trained carry out simple maintenance activities to enable their continued and smooth operation.
- Undertake traffic direction during special events/conferences, guiding visitors to appropriate parking locations and supervising and managing these parking areas to maximise the efficient use of space in line with existing plans and procedures;
- Attend briefings prior to events and carry out instructions and role requirements professionally and diligently;
- Provide feedback and suggestions for improving processes and working arrangements in order to enhance performance;
- Report any instances of damage, or car park/signage defects;
- Use University radio system as appropriate in order to communicate effectively with colleagues/Security/Traffic Enforcement Officers/Events & Conferencing team.
- Provide appropriate support/response for all persons requesting ‘low-level and non-confrontational’ Security assistance.
- To react promptly and respond calmly to security incidents, ensuring appropriate procedural action is taken (including administering basic first aid, dealing with fire/intruder alarm activations and any other non-confrontational incidents) communicating and updating the Security Control appropriately.
- To assist in the prevention and detection within the University of fire, flood, storm damage, theft, trespassing, traffic offences and waste of gas, electricity and other University supplies;
- To receive and respond to ‘low-level non-confrontational’ security-related enquiries or calls for service efficiently and courteously, referring to the Security Supervisor or Security Control Room as appropriate;
- Refer problems and customers to more senior members of staff where this is appropriate in order to provide high levels of customer service.

Team Work
- Work collaboratively with and support other Traffic Support Officers/Traffic Enforcement Officers/Security staff/Events and Conferencing staff to provide the most professional service and the best visitor experience possible;
- Ensure that you are punctual, trustworthy and reliable when undertaking duties in order that colleagues, and visitors are not let down due to problems associated with failing to honour commitments.

Communication / Documentation
- Communicate effectively and professionally across a wide range of audiences.
- Make accurate notes & records, including taking photographs and recording appropriate evidentiary comments in support of contraventions.
