**Job summary**:
Are you an expert in long 18th-century international maritime trade and war at sea? Do you have the strong research and archival skills to support a major digital humanities project? Would you like to be part of the team delivering the Prize Papers Project?
At The National Archives we believe that archives are for everyone and want to open up our High Court of Admiralty collection to diverse and new audiences. Our Collections Expertise and Engagement department is looking for a highly talented researcher to work on Prize Papers, mostly from the 1690s, in many languages.

The post holder would report to the department’s Head of Legal Records.
This is a full time post. However, requests for part-time working, flexible working and job share will be considered, taking into account at all times the operational needs of the Department.
A combination of onsite and home working is available; applicants should be able to work for 3 days a week at our Kew site.

**How to apply**:
Essential Criteria:
- A higher degree (PhD or equivalent experience) in a field relevant to the work of the Legal team in the High Court of Admiralty at The National Archives
- Demonstrable knowledge of the archival work related to complex sorting and digitisation projects with requisite skills in 17-18th century palaeography, and with experience of European languages and writing (Dutch, French, German, Spanish)
- Track record of engaging with digital humanities in research
- Experience of communicating research through a variety of public engagement activities such as exhibitions, public talks, outreach workshops and educational activities
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, and therefore able to interact well and build effective relationships and networks within organisation and externally
- Ability to handle a varied and demanding workload, and to manage own priorities within a supportive team environment
