The Changing Futures programme is a £64 million joint initiative by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK. The fund is for local organisations to work in partnership to better support those who experience multiple disadvantage, including homelessness, substance misuse, mental health issues, domestic abuse, and contact with the criminal justice system.

Our peer support service will support the Changing Futures programme in Sheffield, and will be focused on people’s hopes and aspirations. We want people receiving peer support to be able to connect easily with us, to feel listened to, to grow their skills, and to thrive.

You’ll provide high quality peer support, developing good relationships and acting as a consistent presence and advocate, to enable people to progress towards their own recovery goals. And you’ll use your own lived experience of multiple disadvantage and recovery in an authentic, credible and appropriate way to engage, connect with people and to offer support, fostering a sense of hope and optimism.

- Excellent at building relationships, great at reaching out, connecting and engaging with a wide range of people.
- Empathetic and non-judgemental; open, honest and friendly, able to see and support the potential in people.
- A well of positivity, hopeful and optimistic, always seeking solutions.
- Have a good understanding of multiple disadvantage, the issues people experiencing multiple disadvantage face, and have lived experience yourself. Ideally you will have been in recovery for a minimum of 2 years.
- Able to use your own lived experience to support others in an authentic, credible and appropriate way.
- Willing to develop your practice in peer support, strength-based approaches and motivational interviewing (You will be supported to do this, including via an accredited qualification in Peer Support & Mentoring).

Please see the job description and person specification for more information, including the strengths we believe will lead to success in this role.
