Strategic Lead- Neighbourhoods

**Manchester City Council**
***
- Are you an experienced leader who is passionate about making a difference to the lives of residents and the places where they live?
If yes, an exciting opportunity has now arisen to lead one of the three Neighbourhood Teams in Manchester (Central area, which includes the City Centre and some of the City’s most culturally diverse Wards). The Strategic Lead for Neighbourhoods plays a pivotal role in driving the delivery of place-based priorities within the context of the citywide Our Manchester strategy.
As a city, the Our Manchester Strategy is driving the vision of a ‘world-class city, which makes Manchester dynamic, thriving and ever changing. Strong economic growth is driven through the city’s large business base and anchor organisations. This includes Manchester Airport, Hospitals, Universities and the inclusion of the city centre as a regional centre for jobs and economic activity. An integrated neighbourhood management model is in place focusing on clean, safe & vibrant neighbourhoods that are desirable to live. New homes & neighbourhoods are being created offering more choice and growing the population. The ambition to be Zero Carbon by 2038 is protecting the City’s future. A growing leisure & cultural offer is helping the City to be an attractive place to live, work and visit. Place-based reform of public services and tackling health inequalities through Making Manchester Fairer, are focused on improving the life-chances of residents.
All of this activity influences how Manchester’s neighbourhoods function. At a place level, the Neighbourhood Teams are split into three areas (North, Central & South). Their role is to ensure neighbourhoods are clean, safe and vibrant, as well as ensuring the residents who live in them, can take advantage of what the City has to offer. They do this by translating those citywide place and people priorities into delivery that is reflective of the neighbourhood’s characteristics. They collaborate across their own Council Neighbourhoods Directorate, wider Council Directorates, elected Members, wider public sector, businesses, residents and the voluntary & community sector.
- Proactively work at a senior level to build and maintain relationships that translate multiple-thematic strategies into delivery to benefit places.
- Understand the citywide context, both from a current day perspective through to that of the future, and how this impacts at a locality, ward and neighbourhood level.
- Confidently collaborate politically from the Leader, Executive Members, Ward Members and MPs, to drive change and impact;
- Drive the proactive and reactive delivery of an integrated neighbourhood management approach that maximises impact, efficient allocation of resources, and identifies trends and innovative delivery solutions;
- Drive place-based reform programmes to tackle the social determinants of poor health / inequalities, so residents are able to access the right services at the right time;
- Understand, assimilate and clearly communicate data, insight and lived experience in a way that leads to positive change;
- Provide leadership to engage, listen and collaborate with a culturally diverse population so they are shaping interventions and community led actions;
- Enable communities to take proactive action to mitigate against the effects of climate change;
- Lead a highly performing and engaged team across the system, which benefits the City and enables individuals to reach their full potential;- Driving Licence - you must always hold a full valid driving licence.
- Casual Car Documentation
- Please note that due to the nature of the role, some evening and weekend work will be required.
- If you wish to have a conversation about the role, please contact Mark Rainey, Head of Neighbourhoods, on 07944 691451.
