Location: Meldreth Manor School and Childrens Home, near Royston

The Aurora Meldreth Manor School is an independent Special day school which provides a highly specialist learning environment for students aged 6 to 19 who have a range of physical disability, MLD and SLD needs including autism spectrum disorders, ADHD and associated difficulties, who require an individualised, specialist approach. We are proud to be a well-resourced school with exceptional facilities and therapeutic team.

Due to the continued expansion of the school provision we are currently looking for an experienced Behaviour Support Specialist to join our NAS accredited specialist team to create better outcomes and life chances for our students in their preparation for adult life.

As a Behaviour Support Specialist your role is to deliver high-quality support to children and young people with severe/profound learning difficulties, autism, social, emotional needs and associated challenges to enable them to pursue their ambitions, needs and wishes in relation to education, care and leisure activities.

You will support the positive management of a team through effective motivating and coaching and work directly with the children and young people in both care and school settings. You must always ensure appropriate and accurate data is collected and recorded. You will be regularly sharing data with line management to evaluate the effectiveness of learning and BSP strategies including effectiveness of own intervention programmes.

Key roles and responsibilities

GENERAL

Ensure a high quality of care, education and positive behaviour support
- Work directly and flexibly with all children and young people including off-site activities, delivering interventions, therapeutic support and promoting the 24hour curriculum.
- To support other team members to follow behaviour plans, through role modelling, coaching and discussion.
- To lead weekly reviews of individual Behaviour Support Plans
- Audit incident & behaviour reports
- Ensure that children and young people receive a high standard of care and live and learn in a safe and home and education environment.
- Ensure that each child and young person is treated as an individual and have a bespoke curriculum.
- Ensure that the medical needs of children and young people are met including programmes support for their wellbeing and mental health.
- Communicate with managers about progress, changes and when any difficulties arise, take an active role in safeguarding cases.
- Ensure that other team members have a good understanding of the behaviour of the children and young people and the behaviour plans that are in place.
- Promote positive behaviour and positive strategies for managing behaviour.
- Promote and encourage autonomy and independence in line with agreed plans across school and the children’s home.
- Promote and encourage learning during educational and non-education activities.
- Follow guidance from the education team and other professionals to support children and young people during different activities.
- Join our in-house team of Behaviour Support Instructors

Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes in place
- Keep accurate and up-to-date records to ensure information supports and informs annual reviews and development plans for the individual including documentation relating to learning, behaviour and wellbeing outcomes.
- Liaise with the Residential Managers, Class Teacher and TA’s regarding progress, concerns, etc.
- Support the target setting process for individuals.
- Encourage individuals to make choices within their level of ability.

Liaise with parents, guardians, social workers and other professionals.
- Support relationships and communication between children/young people, parents/carers, family and friends.
- In liaison with parents/carers, Residential Managers and Class Teachers, ensure that any action required from health checks and specialist appointments are appropriately implemented, followed and reviewed.
- Engaging with the on site clinical team
- Deliver training and strategies for parents when required.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as requested by your line manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Qualifications:

- A relevant professional qualification or the ability to gain L3 in working with children and young people
- L3 in working with children and young people is highly desirable
- Qualifications in behavioural approaches or psychology would be desirable

Knowledge and Experience:

- Knowledge and demonstrable experience of working with Children with autism/SEND, attachment disorders, PMLD
- Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection and/or DOLs procedures
- Being able to work proactively and monitor, review and implement new ideas based of the Behaviour Support plans put in place fo
