There are on average 75,000 children in care in England at any one time, all these young people will eventually need to leave this system, generally at the young age of eighteen. Those in the system often require support in order to prefer them for adult life and allow them to thrive within their community. Offering this support takes an individual with patience, empathy and excellent social skills.

Who are we?

Our client is an industry leading support provider in the Supported Accommodation sector, offering a range of supported placements to young people, currently accommodated by children’s social care, between the ages of 16-18 years old. They offer fully supported placements, where young people live within their properties and are supported by staff, these can on solo or in a group setting. They also offer outreach support, where young people have a set number of hours of support per week, whilst living within their own properties, alone or sometimes with family. Our client is a national company, who have grown significantly in the last three years, with further growth planned in the coming 12 months.

What do we do?

Our role is to prepare the young people in our service for life after care, ensuring they have all the necessary skills and knowledge to live independently and flourish in their adult lives. It is also our role to safeguarding them whilst they are in our service, dealing with a manner of risks and challenging behaviour associated with young people who have often suffered trauma and loss in early years.

**Responsible to**:Registered Service Manager

**Purpose of the Post**:To provide practical support to supervisors, monitor recorded information and ensure that a consistent high quality support service is maintained. To work with and provide practical and emotional support to individuals or groups of young adults aged 16+ with a variety of needs, teaching life skills which will enable each young person to fulfil their potential and successfully live independently in their own home. To ensure all work being carried out if in line with the Ofsted regulations for Supported Accommodation.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- To manage a small staff team, contribute to their development needs and provide practical support, advice and guidance in line with Moving Up’s Supervision Policy
- A commitment to attend and contribute to regular staff and management meetings
- Monitor and assess recorded information, managing reports and assessments within given time frames and maintaining electronic systems
- Contribute to the management of the rota system, monitoring absence and annual leave and logístical planning
- Be prepared to take part in the On Call rotation, giving advice, guidance and support to lone workers out of hours
- To establish a professional working relationship with our young people remaining aware of and responding appropriately to their views, needs and abilities
- To promote inclusion, acceptance and self esteem
- To promote independence through education/employment, leisure activities and life skills including health, safety, education, careers, relationships, managing accommodation and budgeting.
- To follow a progressive independence plan formulated in conjunction with other professionals i.e. Social Worker/PA, YOT, CAMHS, Learning Providers etc
- To assist the young people with transportation and/or support at meetings/appointments i.e. Reviews, Planning Meetings, YOT, Drugs Services, Medical Appointments etc and promote independent travel
- To develop positive relationships with local communities to promote the inclusion of young adults and the opportunities for work, apprenticeships, training and education
- To liaise with the Social Worker or PA, providing updates on the progress of the young people on a weekly and ad hoc basis
- To prepare and keep up to date records and monitoring information in line with Moving Up’s Data Protection Policy, to include the provision of Daily and Monthly Logs/Assessments and reports
- To promote and complete weekly Fire and Health & Safety checks at the young adult’s property in compliance with Policies and Procedures
- To work as part of a dedicated staff team to provide a quality service which requires flexibility, working to a rota system working shifts, weekends and sleep-in duties as and when required
- To attend the relevant/appropriate training courses when requested and maintain legislative knowledge
- To attend regular Supervision sessions with designated line manager and attend an annual Appraisal
- Be aware of and comply with Moving Up policies and procedures relating to child
