Seaton, United Kingdom National Trust Full time

Are you passionate about people, heritage and nature? We’re looking for a Volunteering & Community Officer to work with the East Devon Countryside team, based in Branscombe. The team manage a diverse range of sites between Exmouth and Branscombe including Manor Mill, Loughwood Meeting House and 7 miles of South West Coast Path.

The Volunteering & Community Officer will focus on increasing volunteer involvement with the running of Manor Mill, the 19 th century working watermill, by leading on recruiting, managing and supervising our volunteers. This role will deepen community engagement with our conservation work in the beautiful Branscombe and east Devon landscape.

What it's like to work here:East Devon is a varied property, caring for some exceptional places. The areas we care for in East Devon are very varied. The coastal properties of East Devon Countryside are characterised by their cliffs, undercliffs and deep, wooded coombes. Branscombe, nestling at the junction of three valleys is a classic example of an East Devon coastal village, where the Trust owns a water mill, forge and former bakery. The post is based here, in the East Devon Countryside office in the heart of the picturesque village.

What you'll be doing:As our Volunteering and Community Officer, you'll be supporting the wider team by exploring and building links with the local community. You’ll help to make this a flexible, positive and inclusive place for partners, community groups and current and future volunteers to get involved.

Deepening relationships with existing and new audiences, you’ll develop new ways of working together. You’ll also help to hone the skills our teams need to welcome and work with all kinds of people.

You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day management of the volunteers who look after Manor Mill and will help the team to care for the historic fabric of the building and keep the mechanisms in good working order under the guidance of expert millwrights.

Using your passion for history, nature and people, you’ll help engage different audiences in all aspects of our work.

There will be some weekend and evening work, working on a rotating basis in the summer months.

Who we're looking forWe'd love to hear from you if you’re:

- enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the benefits of volunteering
- someone who loves working with volunteers, and who understands the legal differences between staff and volunteers

- experienced in volunteering principles and practice
- comfortable with IT skills (Microsoft Office), and managing budgets

The packageThe National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. It’s important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve. We welcome and value difference, so when we say we’re for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too.
