We are thrilled to announce an incredible opportunity for an experienced Specialist Band 6 Biomedical Scientist to join our dynamic team in Cytology & Andrology. You will be expected to work as part of the Cytology & Andrology Team primarily based in the SPS Hub laboratory under the direction of the Team Manager and Advanced Practitioner. Routine working hours 8:30 am-17:00pm. **Applications will be considered for Band 5 or Band 6 dependent on qualifications and experience.**

Our team at SPS have been fundamental to the principle of making a positive difference to healthcare in Somerset for 10 years. We hold ISO15189 UKAS accreditation and are an HCPC approved training Laboratory.

**Responsibilities**:

- To prepare non-gynae / diagnostic cytology slides from a range of specimen types for review by the consultant histopathologists
- To prepare, review and report on Andrology specimens as part of fertility investigations and post vasectomy
- To maintain and operate the flow cytometer for testing CD4 markers for immune monitoring
- To use PPE and follow laboratory protocols to ensure health and safety standards
- To ensure quality in processes, documentation and training to maintain laboratory UKAS accreditation
- To ensure work performed to meet laboratory key performance indicators

**Qualifications/Training**:

- HPC State Registration as a Biomedical Scientist in Cytology
- BSc (Hons) Biomedical degree of equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 higher level qualification post registration in either Cytology or Andrology or significant experience working in either discipline e.g., IBMS Specialist Portfolio Cytology
- Full training in all aspects of the laboratory with annual competency assessment.
- To maintain personal continued professional development with opportunity for further qualifications in position
