**The Role**:

This could be the perfect time for you to join us for a 12-month secondment/fixed term opportunity as a Senior Police Staff Investigator.

This key role supports the Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) and leads a team in respect of unresolved homicide investigations within the jurisdiction of Northumbria Police. Working closely with the SIO to develop and implement investigative review strategies, develop information management and decision-making systems for investigative reviews and manage resources allocated to those investigative reviews.

You will support the SIO to conduct peer reviews of undetected homicide investigations, near miss reviews, detected case reviews, post-trial reviews and thematic reviews in respect of homicide investigation identifying organisational learning and delivering that learning to the force.

**What will I be doing?**
- Manage, guide, motivate and develop staff to ensure individuals have the knowledge, skills and experience to provide a lawful, professional, and effective investigative service Forcewide.
- Be a primary point of contact for police staff investigators, advising on any issues and concerns that arise and cascading direction from the SIO to the team efficiently and appropriately.
- Provide professional and expert advice / guidance to colleagues, other departments and partners that support and promote the development of excellence in investigative standards.
- Oversee the development and management of investigative plans identifying actions and appropriate methods for gathering material.
- Assist investigations where necessary by conducting interviews and take written statements from victims, witnesses and suspects gathering information, intelligence and evidence; generating further lines of enquiry.
- Where required, attend and manage scenes of crimes to ensure evidence is protected and secured maximising forensic opportunities.
- Implement and maintain appropriate risk management processes and frameworks for all investigations in the team, ensuring the assessment of vulnerability.
- Oversee, and undertake, the review and analysis of evidential material in order to prepare reports and build comprehensive investigation case files for submission to the CPS to achieve desired criminal justice outcomes.

**What do I need?**

**Essential**:

- Accredited PIP2 Investigator
- Accredited PIP2 Investigative Manager having completed the Investigative Managers Development Programme or equivalent
- Leadership experience within Category A homicide investigations or other similar status high profile and complex enquiries
- Experience of managing team investigating serious crime
- Ensure investigative policy is actioned
- Experience of solving complex challenges
- Effectively manage and maximise team and individual performance.
- Demonstrate ability to convincingly communicate orally and in writing to achieve objectives.
- Establish good working relationships with other police services/agencies and service providers in order to achieve objectives.
- Requirement to undertake designated functions and will have associated powers conferred by the chief constable under the policing and crime act 2017

**Desirable**:

- PIP 3 Accreditation
- Professional knowledge of homicide investigation and relevant legislation (including HOLMES, MIRSAP and the Major Crime Investigation Manual)
