Conference Project Lead

Elsevier’s Conference Team provides a complete conference management service to support the company's publishing activities. A highly experienced and professional team manages International conferences and congresses in all areas of science, technology and health science. These events range in size from 200 delegates up to 1300 and you would be responsible for developing the conference from concept right through to delivery.

As you will be working with stakeholders around the world, you have excellent communication skills. You are confident, not afraid to manage expectations. You possess strong organizational and strategic skills and you approach plans with a creative mind.

You will be part of Conference project team based in the Oxford office and will report into the Conference Project Lead Manager.

**Responsibilities**:

- Manage the project to ensure all parties (marketing, commercial sales, publishing, Content Co-ordinator and external committees) are working to agreed schedule timelines
- Monitor supplier invoices to ensure no overspend and prepare final accounts for each conference
- Must be able to coordinate a variety of projects running simultaneously and make instant decisions when necessary
- Compile schedule, setting deadlines for essential activities and agree schedule with all involved parties
- Able to work effectively with very senior people (Editors and high profile keynote speakers)
- You will be required to travel to the conferences and be onsite throughout to ensure a smooth running of the conference.

- Excellent team player - able to adapt communication to a variety of levels and to delegate tasks
- Able to multi-task and work under pressure
- Able to use discretion and initiative to achieve objectives
- Diplomatic in dealing with sometimes difficult customers
- General Knowledge and Technical Skills:

- Excellent written English.
- Able to recognize priorities
- Strong writing skills
- Preferably knowledge regarding the scientific publication process, scientific world and its sociologies
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiating skills
- Strong relationship management skills
- Experience working in a conference and/or exhibition environment
- Experience of managing event budgets
- Basic IT awareness and skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word; Adobe an advantage)
