**About the Job**

Brannel School is characterised by the positivity of our staff and the overwhelmingly happy and supportive atmosphere around the school. As a Pastoral Support Officer, you will work as part of a small, hardworking and supportive team focused on the emotional, physical, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our students through the delivery of a variety of interventions. You will be based in our Pastoral Support Team office but will spend a significant amount of time out and about working closely with individual students and staff across the whole school.

Brannel School is part of the Cornwall Education Learning Trust (CELT), which is responsible for educating learners in four secondary schools, one junior school and nine primary schools across Mid-Cornwall from Newquay to St Austell.

**Contact Details**

**Job Purpose**:To support the pastoral needs of students to ensure that attendance, behaviour, safeguarding, and wellbeing targets are met.

In particular, to support vulnerable students and their families in order to help remove barriers to learning and enable students to make at least expected progress.

**Reporting to**:Pastoral Support Office Manager

**Responsible for**:No line management responsibility

**Salary Grade**:Grade G1 - G6 (Actual Salary £18,413 to £22,740)

**Hours**:37 hours per week term time plus 5 INSET days plus 12 additional days (41.4 working weeks / 47.4 paid weeks)

**Main Responsibilities**:
❖ To contribute to the emotional, physical, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all students through the delivery of a variety of interventions.

❖ To support the school to ensure that targets for student attendance and punctuality are met, following up on concerns, as appropriate, with urgency.

❖ To be responsible and proactive in dealing with day-to-day issues of student behaviour, safeguarding, wellbeing and attendance by investigating and resolving pastoral incidents such as poor behaviour, lateness, poor attendance, bullying and friendship break-ups.

❖ To act as a safeguarding officer as part of the school’s designated safeguarding team.

To be alert to safeguarding issues, to log and pass on concerns as appropriate, and to deal confidentially and sensitively with parents and students undergoing difficulties.

❖ To help remove welfare barriers to learning, enabling students to make at least expected progress. In particular, to take a lead role in supporting vulnerable learners to make good progress, including:

- Pupil premium students
- Looked after children
- Service children
- Young carers
- Persistent non-attenders

❖ To establish constructive relationships with carers/parents, promoting a positive attitude towards school, exchanging information, helping them to support their child’s attendance and access relevant family support services as required.

❖ To adopt the keyworker role for named students, monitoring their progress, attending any relevant meetings, and reporting any concerns to key internal staff.

❖ To liaise with staff, parents, and relevant external agencies to provide appropriate intervention for students experiencing disruption to their learning. To organise, attend, and communicate the outcomes of parent and student meetings to key internal staff.

❖ To liaise, communicate with, and manage interactions with external agencies and communicate outcomes to key internal staff as appropriate. This may include attending
