Job description

We are seeking to recruit a social science scholar with teaching and research interests in anthropology, sociology, social policy or a closely allied field to teach on our BA Social Sciences and other programmes as appropriate and to conduct high quality research.

They will have interests and a track record that enable them to convene Political Activism and Social Change, an optional module on the BA Social Sciences.

They will be a member of the friendly and vibrant Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) within the School of Education, Communication and Society, which is a School in the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy.

The post is maternity cover and offered on our academic education pathway.

This post will be offered on an a fixed-term maternity cover until July 2025

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the academic life and culture of the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) and the wider School, including by:
Contributing to teaching and module leadership on the BA Social Sciences. This will include convening the optional module, Political Activism and Social Change and contributing to teaching on the core module, Understanding the Social World

Contributing to other programmes as required

Acting as Personal Tutor to students

Conducting high quality research and knowledge exchange activities

Promoting and marketing the work of the School

Contributing to the smooth running of the School by taking on organisational responsibilities as directed by the Head of School,
- The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post._

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential Criteria
- PhD in relevant area
- Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English
- Strong teamworking skills and a commitment to inclusive and democratic ways of working
- Expertise in anthropology, sociology, social policy or a closely allied field, with a strong interest in social justice and applied social science and an aptitude for communication across disciplines
- Proven teaching ability and an interest in and expertise relevant to enquiry-based, participatory and critical pedagogies
- A proven interest and track record in research, with interests that complement those of existing group members.
- A completed teaching qualification equivalent to a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice; having passed probation at a higher education institution on an academic contract; a consistent track record of high quality publications over at least a three-year period; having undertaken a significant administrative role

Desirable criteria
- Expertise in quantitative methods
- A research funding track record
